OECD data reveals the extent to which Australia funds research and development projects compared to other countries. Australia ranks 22nd in the OECD for investment in R&D as a proportion of GDP, far behind countries such as the US and South Korea. Canada, which boasts a comparable economy to Australia, ranks 19th. “Scaling requires entrepreneurship, engineering brilliance, access to capital, tax incentives and strong institutions – all held within a highly-enabling policy environment,"" Engineers Australia National President Dr Raj Aseervatham said.

Circle House is an excellent example of a circular build. In 2020 in Aarhus, Denmark, 60 social housing units – comprising two- and three-storey terraced houses and five-storey tower blocks – were built according to circular principles, with 90 per cent of materials able to be reused without loss of value. All parts of the buildings were reused from elsewhere: shingles were made from upcycled plastic waste; the facades, made from clay and reclaimed wood, are easily disassembled; and reclaimed timber features are found throughout. The benefits of deep machine learning over AI and machine learning are numerous: from the efficient processing of unstructured data and the ability to tease out hidden relationships and patterns, to the ability to process the large variations in volatile datasets, all without human participation. Deep machine learning is boosting the power of synthetic biology to drive advances in many current research areas. Among these are the design and simulation of novel biological components, automated analysis of imaging data, structure-based learning, not to mention algorithms for interpreting protein sequences in microbes and simple organisms such as yeast.

We are thrilled to announce that Create has won Gold in the category of Best Content Platform at the prestigious International Content Marketing Awards in the UK! The category recognises excellence in content platforms that are integral to delivering on an organisation’s objectives. Judges were looking for success or impressive changes in the past 12 months to the platform that demonstrate improved content performance and audience engagement. Last year we shifted create magazine to a premium quarterly publication and refreshed our digital create offering to become a more interactive and innovative experience for our members. The jurors said about the Create content platform: “With impressive results in audience engagement, revenue growth, and industry influence, this platform delivers on all its goals. The sustained success in performance metrics solidifies this as a highly effective content platform." A huge thank you to Mahlab for your incredible work with us and to everyone involved in bringing Create to life, and, of course, to our readers—your engagement and support made this possible. https://lnkd.in/gRinMUQM Joe Ennis Lachlan H. “I was born in the small town of Santiago in the northern Philippines, the second of three children. In 2005, I made the bold decision to migrate to Australia. “Finding work in engineering was a challenge. I applied for several positions, but the lack of ‘local experience' became a barrier I couldn’t seem to overcome. Rejection shattered my confidence and forced me to confront the reality of starting over. “Over the next few years, I juggled work and further education. Each step brought me closer to my ultimate goals: becoming a design engineer, achieving Chartered Engineer status, and making a meaningful impact in the engineering community."
