🔥 Looking for information on a fire in a truck carrying EVs🔥 This incident is reported to have occurred in France very recently, but we can't find any information to verify whether EVs were involved or the incident itself. Any help from our LinkedIn brains trust is appreciated! #evfire? #batteryfire #truckfire #lithiumionbatteries #thermalrunaway

🔥 No, an electric fire truck did NOT set fire to a fire station 🔥 Some reports (looking at you MotorBiscuit) have stated that an electric fire truck caught fire in Germany, burning down a brand new fire station. This is not correct. A lithium-ion powered tool or device (yet to be confirmed) went into thermal runaway on a DIESEL truck, leading to the fire spreading. Unfortunately, the station did not have fire protection systems in place, meaning it was a total loss. This is the third incident we've tracked where a LiB powered tool has caused a fire on a fire truck. In the previous two, small battery packs were involved, potentially following damage during operational use. Ever heard the saying 'a lie travels the world while the truth is getting its shoes on'? Please check your sources before sharing incorrect information about EV battery fires... #EVFire #evbatteryfire #evemergencyresponse #evincidentmanagement #lithiumionbatteryfire #thermalrunaway

See if you can spot our Technical Specialist Dan Fish in this great news piece on the fire investigation course he undertook last week with the International Association of Arson Investigators at Fire and Rescue NSW burn facility. Hint: he’s holding a TIC! Along with our Director, he then spoke at the Australian Association of Fire Investigators conference on the challenges and hazards of investigating #evbatteryfires, including our origin & cause work on ‘Testla’ and a current project we’re calling ‘Drev’. #evfire #evfireinvestigation #thermalrunaway #evbatteryfire #evincidentmanagement
Fire and Rescue NSW and the International Association of Arson Investigators have joined forces to host the first Australian Fire Investigators' course, at FRNSW's Londonderry research facility. Thirty-six participants from around Australasia and as far afield as Brazil attended to learn about fire behaviours and evidence-gathering. FRNSW torched six fire cells, replicating bedrooms, kitchens and offices, to determine fire causes ranging from candles to a fire bombing.

It’s been a terrible couple of weeks with four fatalities in an EV fire in France last week, and a similar incident overnight in Toronto, Canada. Four people were killed, one was rescued through the brave efforts of bystanders. High speed collision into a concrete barrier is believed to be the cause. We’re working to verify all details, which will be captured in our data. Source in comments via The Toronto Star. Our thoughts with all those affected. #evfire #evbatteryfire #evemergencyresponse #evfireinvestigation #evincidentmanagement

When an electric vehicle caught fire on a dark country road in late 2023, it created headline news. But what happened? Thanks to our friends at Tesla, our team were able to pull the battery pack apart and fully investigate the cause of thermal runaway. With this information we've created an interactive online training course for firefighters, incident managers, fire investigators and anyone working around EVs to better understand the hazards and risks involved with damaged high voltage lithium-ion battery packs. EV FireSafe's 'Testla' EV Fire Investigation Case Study course is essential learning; it takes about an hour to complete and we've kept this life-saving information affordable, at only AU$75, and you can enrol at https://lnkd.in/g9kaKvfd #evfire #evfireinvestigation #evbatteryfire #evemergencyresponse #thermalrunaway #evincidentmanagement

Yes, a flooded EV has a higher risk of battery fire. To help guide data-driven information online, EV FireSafe can confirm we have 34 EV battery fires following submersion in salt water. Submersion is for hours to days, primarily due to coastal flooding from hurricanes and storms. Advice from government and fire authorities provided to Americans affected by the current hurricanes is valid - anything powered by a lithium-ion battery has a higher risk of fire following submersion in salt water, as it will corrode battery cells and, when water recedes, form a conductive path of salt crystals. If you are affected by the current hurricane, or if you are involved in a flooding event in future, please follow authorities advice on how to remove, store or recover EVs, electric golf buggies, ebikes, escooters and power tools. Our thoughts are with people affected by the current hurricanes in the US. See more at https://lnkd.in/gjMHjH4A #EVFire #evemergencyresponse #evsinfloods #evfiredata

Bonjour! A fantastic few days in France with the wonderful INERIS team for our Director Emma Sutcliffe and Technical Specialist Dan Fish, exploring their battery testing facilities and eating some truly incroyable food! INERIS dates back to the 1940s, and started as Cherchar, a research and testing centre for collieries, studying coal mine worker safety. As renewables took over, it became INERIS in 1990, and now aims to mitigate risks to the public and the environment from economic activity. This includes a world-class #lithiumion battery testing facility, tucked into the French countryside, and the EV FireSafe team look forward to working with their team to better understand #thermalrunaway and #emergencyresponse. Merci INERIS!

Did you know that, according to Bilbransje24, this month Norway will have more #electricvehicles on the road than internal combustion cars? What does that mean for emergency response to #evbatteryfires? In 2022, there were 704 ICE fires and 33 EV fires. But...not all 33 EV fires involved the high voltage lithium-ion battery pack. To estimate how many #thermalrunaway events there were, we can use data from the Nederlands Instituut Publieke Veiligheid (NIPV) which shows 38% of all Dutch EV fires in 2022 involved the high voltage battery. This would equate to 12 electric vehicles in thermal runaway in Norway in 2022, managed by fire crews. Thanks for the great learnings from our friend Rune Wiggo Johnsen. #evfire #evbatteryfire #thermalrunaway #evemergencyresponse Source: https://lnkd.in/ghBPfXZM

🔥 Two firefighters killed following lithium-ion battery explosion and fire 🔥 We're saddened to hear that two Polish firefighters have been killed in a building collapse following a fire in the basement where it appears a commercial business repairing lithium-ion battery packs was operating. An employee said the business was 'regenerating batteries' and customers 'brought an old battery and it had to be dismantled and new cells inserted'. According to news accounts, it wasn't the first fire at the premises, with crews repeatedly called to the site, with TVN24 BiS reports saying batteries 'were the cause of small fires that broke out there even two or three times a week'. It is unclear what types of #lithiumionbattery packs were present, however the description of business activities do point to unsafe #electricvehicle battery pack repairs. Our thoughts are with the firefighters families and colleagues. Source: https://lnkd.in/gkzuKFaC #evfire #batteryfire #lithiumionbatteryfire #thermalrunaway #emergencyresponse #firefighting
