After a collaborative effort from the team here at F+P, we're excited to share our proposals for the redevelopment of Cessnock Hospital as it's revealed to the local community for feedback and consultation. Driven by an ambitious sustainability agenda and an embracing of local Wonnarua culture, the $138m redevelopment will address clinical capacity, emerging models of care and enhanced functionality whilst providing a welcoming, safe and secure environment for patients and staff. The project delivers a new campus Master Plan including a new stand-alone health facility incorporating a new Emergency Department, Medical Imaging, Operating Theatres, In-Patient Units and FOH services. Once completed, the redevelopment will allow Cessnock Hospital to continue to serve as an important part of the health network supporting the Lower Hunter health region. Awesome recognition of a job done well! Billbergia took on a site and a complexity that not many would. Build on a 617sqm site over the top of a regional storm water line which needs to be moved but connect into a brick channel under the heritage building. Cantilever over that heritage building by 9m all with one vehicle street loading zone and no storage zones to speak of. Do all that through covid and the worst rain in a decade AND make it look amazing! Job well done team. I and fitzpatrick+partners are super proud of the outcome which is the result of great collaboration between all. Well done Conor, Dave, John and all the team at Billbergia.

Today, Liverpool Hospital, alongside key stakeholders who have been integral to the $830 million redevelopment, celebrated a major milestone – the completion of Stage 1 of the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct. A traditional Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony was held to cleanse, bless, and protect the new space before it opens, making this a significant moment in our hospital’s journey. Guests were also welcomed with a beautiful performance of the Australian National Anthem, first in the Dharawal language, followed by English. This was followed by words from representatives of Liverpool’s diverse cultures in Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, and Vietnamese. Representing the wonderful young people of our community, we had the pleasure of hearing from student leaders from Liverpool Girls and Liverpool Boys High Schools, who spoke on behalf of the next generation—those who may one day use or even work in the hospital's services. And finally guests were invited on a guided tour of the new building. Now, it’s your turn to explore! Join us for the ‘Welcome All Cultures’ Community Open Day, where you’ll get an exclusive look inside our brand-new hospital facilities. Last week, we had the privilege of attending the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Awards in London, where we presented 88 Walker alongside some of the most innovative projects in the industry. Studio partner Paul Reidy and Billbergia Group Development Director Saul Moran addressed the conference theme of 'New or Renew,' showcasing how the project sensitively approached the heritage fire station, urban connectivity, and commercial viability to create a new landmark for North Sydney. While we didn't take home the top prize, we were thrilled to collect two Awards of Excellence in the Best Tall Building by Height (100-199 Metres) and Region (Oceania) categories. It was a fantastic experience and an honour to share the stage with peers who are pushing the boundaries of design. A always a big thank you to all of the collaborators and consultants that make a project like 88 Walker possible. With the imminent opening of the first stage of the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct to the public, we're reflecting on this milestone, how far the project has come and what's left to do. Since our appointment in 2018, we have been working alongside a dedicated team of consultants, contractors, suppliers and our clients to realise a Master Plan that is completely transforming how the hospital operates and how clinical services are delivered. Conceived as the anchor project within the wider Liverpool Innovation Precinct, the redevelopment is a re-imagining of the site as a vital piece of community infrastructure, creating a foundation for world-class clinical expertise, innovation, research and technological advancement. As we look towards Stage 2, set to start in early 2025, we are excited to see how LHAP will contribute towards the further growth of the LIP and future developments in health, education and research. We're excited to share that 88 Walker has been shortlisted at the 2024 WAF Awards in the ‘Completed Buildings - Mixed-Use' category! Conceived as a tower crafted from a pair of tall slender forms, 88 Walker is a focal point on the skyline. The design integrates the existing heritage fire station with a new 252 room 4.5-star hotel and over 12,500sqm of boutique commercial office space, to become the tallest building in North Sydney. We're looking forward to presenting the project at the festival in November. Our team took a break from the studio to visit the Liverpool Health & Academic Precinct as it closes in on the completion of Stage 1 and will soon open its doors to the community. Members of the project team talked through key design themes and challenges they faced while delivering the $790 million project. Sitting within the wider Liverpool Innovation Precinct, the building is one of the largest Health Infrastructure projects in NSW and lays the foundation in transforming the area into a global hub for medical innovation and education. With Stage 2 commencing soon, our team is committed to delivering a healthcare precinct that will bring significant benefit to the communities of South Western Sydney for years to come. #LiverpoolHospital #LiverpoolInnovationPrecinct #LHAPproject #LHAP #WesternSydney
