“It’s just the right thing to do” is a terrible business argument for #mentalhealth programs. When a business exists to deliver an outcome, create value for shareholders, or serve a customer, when the going gets tough, everything that isn’t inextricably tied to achieving this purpose is at risk of being defunded. So this raises two very important steps to secure and maintain investment in your mental health program at work: 1️⃣ Ensure when you seek budget you help executives understand how your program helps achieve business objectives 2️⃣ Provide regular data to executives on how well your program is performing to support business objectives. Rather than being shied away from, HR and HSW professionals should embrace the requirement to review and report back on program performance. This encourages greater discretion in choosing the correct solutions, less patience for investments that clearly aren’t working, and ongoing continuous improvement to maximise benefits and secure ongoing funding for programs.
