Erta Ale is an active basaltic volcano situated in the Afar Region of northeastern Ethiopia, within the Danakil Depression - one of the hottest and most inhospitable areas on Earth. Known for its continuous lava lake, Erta Ale is among the few volcanoes worldwide to feature this phenomenon, making it a truly unique destination for adventure travellers and volcano enthusiasts. Standing at approximately 613 metres high, the volcano is often referred to as the "Smoking Mountain" and is respected by the local Afar community. Happy Diwali - Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated widely across India and various parts of the world. The festival represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Held between October and November, its dates vary according to the Hindu lunar calendar and it spans five days, with the principal celebration on the third day. Each day holds distinct rituals and meanings: the first, Dhanteras, is dedicated to wealth and prosperity, during which people clean and decorate their homes and often purchase gold, silver, and other valuable items. The second day, Naraka Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali, is a time to clear away negativity, with homes decorated using clay lamps and rangoli (colourful designs made from powders or flower petals). On the third day, Diwali, families worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, by lighting oil lamps, candles, and fireworks, and performing puja (prayers) to welcome prosperity. The fourth day, Govardhan Puja, commemorates Lord Krishna’s lifting of Govardhan Hill and is celebrated by preparing and offering a variety of foods as a symbol of gratitude and abundance. Leopard seals are apex predators found along the icy shores and waters of Antarctica. They are named for their striking coat, marked with dark, spotted patterns reminiscent of a leopard’s. Sleek and powerful, these seals are known for their remarkable hunting skills, making them some of the most effective predators in the Antarctic ecosystem. Their diet primarily consists of penguins, fish, squid, and even smaller seals, with an agile and stealthy approach often witnessed as they prowl beneath the ice or wait near penguin colonies. Unlike many seal species, leopard seals are solitary and highly territorial, often patrolling vast stretches of coastline alone. They use their distinctive vocalisations – eerie, high-pitched calls that carry for kilometres underwater – to communicate and establish territory.
