🌊🌏 Australia’s Ambitious Conservation Targets 🌿 In an exciting step towards a more sustainable future, Australia recently committed to protecting 30% of its land and marine areas by 2030 as part of the global “30 by 30” conservation goals. This includes a landmark expansion of the Heard and McDonald Islands Marine Park, adding 310,000 km² to protect vital ecosystems for species like the albatross, fur seals, and penguins. Foundation & Friends is proud to support the protection of biodiversity. As a community, we believe in ensuring these precious ecosystems thrive for future generations. Now is the time to join us in making an impact for nature. Every member, visit, and donation helps our work flourish! JOHN SIEMON, DIRECTOR OF HORTICULTURE AND LIVING COLLECTIONS, REPORTS ON RE-ESTABLISHING FIRST NATIONS CULTURAL BURNING AT MOUNT ANNAN. On a chilly and dew-dampened midwinter morning, a significant milestone was achieved at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. A cultural burn was undertaken; the first at the Garden since the dispossession of Aboriginal Peoples and the significant modification of the landscape, from native vegetation to agricultural pasture. This event marked a pivotal moment in the integration of Aboriginal cultural fire-management practices into modern land stewardship. The renewed interest in these traditional practices has surged, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating 2019–20 Black Summer fire season. https://lnkd.in/g6NKRwrj
