🎉 Celebrating Simone - NAIDOC Community Person of the Year We are thrilled to share that our long time tenant, Simone, was this week awarded the Midland NAIDOC Community Person of the Year! 🎖️👏 Simone was nominated by FHL staff for her outstanding contribution to the community, even in the face of personal health challenges. She balances caring for her children and working, with volunteering for organisations like The Broken Crayon and Voice of Hope workshops. She has just helped organise a NAIDOC week event at her children's school - the first in 24 years - and helps women heal through art and community workshops. She is a wonderful role model and heavily involved in the First Nations community in the City of Swan. Simone dedicated the award to her late Mum, who instilled in her the values of community service and resilience. 🌸 We are so happy for Simone and immensely proud of her, especially given the challenges she has faced along the way. This is what a tenant living in affordable housing under our Elevate Program has to say about their home. Affordable housing is having a significant impact on people's lives and the community, and we are seeing it first-hand, everyday.

Thanks to our friends at Evolve Housing and SGCH in Sydney for hosting some of our Board members and senior staff at their offices, and at a variety of site visits this week. It’s been an inspiring couple of days to see first hand the collaboration and quality of work of some of the sector’s largest CHP’s. Spanning social, affordable, SDA and youth housing, the strategic focus on building sustainable homes and communities is highly evident, as is the commitment to sustaining tenancies. Wendy Hayhurst also provided a comprehensive update, which was invaluable to gain a deeper understanding of Community Housing Industry Association’s policy and advocacy focus. Today was the 3rd of our workshops with the fantastic Catherine Kolomyjec and what wonderful, impactful sessions they have been. Thanks to our Operations staff (and some special Rents team colleagues) who so enthusiastically participated in these workshops, were open and vulnerable and reinforced how values driven our frontline teams are. We’ve all learnt a lot about leading with compassion.

Our Community Engagement Team was invited to attend the Housing Choices Western Australia annual Tenant Art Showcase last week. More than 50 tenant artists got the opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent to guests and tenants from across Perth. We are always to excited to see what our industry partners are doing to connect and engage their tenants. We all believe that affordable, safe and secure housing has the power to change lives so supporting one another is integral. Congratulations again to Housing Choices WA on a fantastic event, we look forward to holding our own Makers Market in November!

Congratulations to our team who were at this morning’s HBF Health Run for a Reason. They got the whole organisation on board with their fundraising, which included everything from bake-sales, a Bunnings sausage sizzle, a raffle and the highly lucrative swear jar! They’ve raised several thousands for Parkerville Children and Youth Care, a fantastic cause. Great work team - you’ve really done us proud 👏👏
