At FrontierSI we are deeply committed to delivering high-quality impactful solutions for our clients. We are equally committed to the preservation and sustainable management of the environment and natural resources. It’s been a pleasure working with GHD Digital’s Matti Mikkonen to provide a solution that fulfils these commitments. “FrontierSI helped GHD Digital with a large-scale, predictive environmental analytics study using remote sensing, Matti says. “They were able to coordinate and meet the project’s tight timeframes with diligence and great communication at all stages.” This post concludes FrontierSI’s series featuring solutions for environment managers, but our team will continue its commitment to transforming location-based information into actionable insights and solutions. We are excited to announce the first paper in our Australian Centre for Space Governance Policy Paper Series: "Securing Australia Through Space: Resilient PNT for Disaster Response" by Dr. Jia-Urnn Lee. Resilient Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) is critical for effective disaster response and maintaining critical infrastructure. Australia relies heavily on the US GPS system and other foreign-owned systems for PNT during emergencies. There's a key opportunity for Australia to lead in the development of GNSS-enabled Emergency Warning Services, particularly in the Pacific. This policy paper recommends a coordinated effort to map national PNT dependencies, including critical infrastructure, the development of a national approach to ensure seamless transition between PNT technologies, and leadership in the Asia-Pacific region on emergency warning services using PNT technology. #spacegovernance #spacepolicy #spacelaw ANU Institute for Space | InSpace ANU National Security College ANU Defence Institute ANU College of Asia & the Pacific Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australian Space Agency Fenner School of Environment and Society Australian Space Agency United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Tech Policy Design Centre

Will your cocoa come from Vanuatu in 2050? 🍫 Vanuatu’s climate is changing rapidly – it’s already experiencing rising sea-levels, more severe cyclones, extreme rainfall and marine heatwaves. With our project partners, we supported the development of Vanuatu’s Climate Information Services Portal “VanKirap” – an interactive climate mapping tool aimed at helping the island nation plan for the impacts of climate change. The web-based portal includes customised data mapping tools, technical reports, hazard-based impact assessment guides and case studies summarising threats to key industries – from tourism to coffee and cocoa production. Interestingly, while warming and greenhouse gas emissions may make operations more challenging across many industries, climate change modelling undertaken within the VanKirap Portal has indicated that the area of land suitable for cocoa production could increase by 22–103% by 2050. This type of modelling supports the island nation’s economic development plans. “I believe through innovation, well-considered policy and collective action we can address many of the climate-related challenges we face now and in the future,” FrontierSI’s Chief Business Officer and Health Lead, Paula Fievez says. This confidence stems from Paula’s experience leading a range of projects that have harnessed the power of spatial information and technology. She says: “there is a growing awareness, technological advances, and increasing efforts by governments, businesses, and individuals to address the climate change impacts” and that too gives her hope. “By leveraging spatial science, organisations can better understand localised risk and make evidence-based decisions to target interventions, optimise resource use, and build resilience against the growing threat of climate change,” Paula says. “The ability to visualise and analyse location information relating to climate impact provides organisations a powerful tool for sustainable planning and management.” Find out how FrontierSI can help your organisation address climate-related challenges here: https://lnkd.in/gNK5zHSi #Geospatial #Data #Environment #ClimateResilience

There’s a bushfire raging out of control, Australia’s aerial firefighting fleet is called out to fight it, but where do they get water from? That’s the question FrontierSI helped the National Aerial Firefighting Centre (NAFC) answer. We developed an information service that allows NAFC’s aerial firefighters to identify waterbodies big enough to refill their tanks. The improved information service draws on existing waterbody data that is updated regularly, giving accurate information on how much water is likely to be in a dam or waterway in near real-time. The solution was developed in collaboration with Geoscience Australia, AFAC and Country Fire Authority (CFA) Get started on a solution to your environmental challenges here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gqDShMq2 #Geospatial #Data #Environment #ClimateResilience

Environment measuring and monitoring can be hard to set up, time-consuming and costly to maintain. But what if you could combine your resources with others who were interested in the same geographic location as you? That’s what FrontierSI has helped deliver in collaboration with the AusSeabed initiative. The AusSeabed Survey Coordination Tool lets the seabed mapping community and other interested parties register which parts of Australia’s ocean floor they’d like mapped, and record exactly what data they’d like collected. This means that mapping expeditions can be prioritised and planned to deliver better outcomes for all. Then once a mapping operation is underway the AusSeabed quality assurance tool, QAX, can provide real-time feedback on the data that’s being captured – ensuring it meets local and international standards before mapping teams pack up and return to shore. This collaborative, high-quality data collection model is already improving seabed mapping – a highly complex and costly operation involving ships, fixed-wing aircraft, deep-tow equipment and autonomous underwater vehicles; not to mention the schools of fish and big waves that can crash in and impact data quality 🌊🐠 Find out about collaborating with FrontierSI here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gcEirzRy Thanks to our partners Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, AUSTRALIAN HYDROGRAPHIC OFFICE (AHO) #Geospatial #Data #Environment #ClimateResilience

The “data deluge” enabled by new technologies can be “a real mixed-bag” for environment managers, says FrontierSI Chief Executive Officer, Graeme Kernich. “I’m enthusiastic about new location-based technologies that enable more people than ever to ask questions and have them answered,” Graeme says. “But there's a real bind because often when people really isolate the environmental challenge they’re trying to solve, they don't have the data they need, which is often about the timeliness or quality of data.” That’s why FrontierSI starts with understanding exactly what problem needs to be solved, identifying the associated data needs and what is required to get there. “Our forte is listening intently to the organisation that has the question, and then bringing our collective knowledge to solve the problem,” Graeme says. “With well-formed questions and well-tuned AI algorithms, backed by good-quality and structured data, more people than ever can ask the right question and get the right answer.” Find out how we can help you answer your environmental management questions here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gPz6RUaB #Geospatial #DataDeluge #Environment #ClimateResilience
