For decades, we've predominantly studied the effects of Asparagopsis on reducing methane in cattle. However, did you know there are several notable studies exploring its ability to lower methane emissions in other ruminant animals including sheep and goats? Check out some of these peer-reviewed studies on our science page: https://lnkd.in/eJbA5X62 #Asparagopsis #MethaneReduction #SustainableFarming #FarmManagement
About us
FutureFeed Pty Ltd was established by CSIRO with investment support from Woolworths Group, GrainCorp, Harvest Road and AGP Sustainable Real Assets/ Sparklabs Cultiv8. The company holds the global IP rights to technology developed by CSIRO, Meat and Livestock Australia and James Cook University. FutureFeed is commercialising an innovative livestock feed ingredient that utilises a specific type of seaweed, Asparagopsis, which reduces methane emissions by 80% or more. Improved feed efficiencies have also been observed in our early studies, and we are seeking to confirm these observations in a large herd trial whose results will be published in mid-2023. Livestock feed with FutureFeed is the solution. It could improve farm profitability and will tackle climate change without adverse impact on livestock productivity. FutureFeed may also provide farmers access to other income streams through carbon markets and provide access to premium niche markets through a low carbon footprint and environmentally friendly product where markets and regulation allow. Our new natural livestock feed ingredient is good for the animals, good for climate change and great for business.

From Hawaiian tables to global climate solution. Hawai'i is known as one of the only places on Earth where humans consume Asparagopsis seaweed - in the form of a condiment called limu kohu. This seaweed is now attracting worldwide attention for its potential to reduce methane emissions from livestock. Capitalising on the discovery, it's no surprise two FutureFeed licensees are based on this idyllic island. We recently caught up with Blue Ocean Barns' Co-Founder and CEO Joan Salwen to talk about their company's remarkable progress in the United States and Mexico since patenting their Asparagopsis-based livestock feed, Brominata, in 2020. This is what she had to say: https://lnkd.in/gyuNg4tU Photo courtesy of Blue Ocean Barns #Asparagopsis #Seaweed #MethaneReduction #SustainableFarming #CattleFeed

Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) are one step closer for Aussie farmers reducing enteric methane emissions. FutureFeed is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its years-long push to have Asparagopsis and similar solutions recognised by the ACCU scheme. Along with a working group made up of 130 industry representatives, we have submitted an official Expression of Interest (EOI) to support the introduction of an ACCU method for enteric methane reduction for ruminant livestock. It is now in the hands of the Emissions Reductions Assurance Committee (ERAC), tasked with choosing which method idea submissions to prioritise. It was simply an idea hatched during COVID. However, Australian-based FutureFeed licensee Immersion Group has since become a globally recognised Asparagopsis producer, partnering with major seafood producer Nissui Corporation. Their journey hasn't been without its challenges, but Immersion Group's unwavering commitment to reduce methane emissions through innovative cultivation methods is paving the way for a greener future in farming. Find out about the company's impressive milestones in our interview with CEO Scott Elliott: https://lnkd.in/gkFSHpzK #ImmersionGroup #Asparagopsis #SustainableFarming #MethaneReduction #Seaweed

Did you know methane from cow burps accounts for more greenhouse gas than the aviation industry? Moreover, methane is far better at trapping heat than carbon dioxide (CO2). It has 28 times the global warming potential of CO2 on a 100-year scale, according to the FAO. This is why our team at FutureFeed, and our licensees, are determined to reduce the agricultural industry's contribution to global warming by offering Asparagopsis seaweed as a livestock feed ingredient. With just a small amount included in feed, methane emissions can be reduced by up to 99% in a beef feedlot system, according to our latest study. How is Asparagopsis included in feed and supplements? It can be found in two forms, a stabilised dried powder or in an edible oil containing Asparagopsis bioactives. The product form you choose really depends on the feeding system you have. Which one is most effective at reducing livestock methane emissions? Multiple studies have found there is an equivalence between dry meal and the oil extract so it depends on what best fits your system. FutureFeed reposted this
There's a Welsh proverb, "Deuparth gwaith yw ei ddechrau," which translates to, "Starting the work is two-thirds of it." This old saying was brought to life today as we gathered in Cardiff to witness the exciting potential seaweed can play in developing economic, ecological, and environmental opportunities both here and around the world. It's always energising talking shop with other innovators in the seaweed space like High Tide Seaweed and fellow The Earthshot Prize finalists like Notpla. Now the work's started and the solutions are gaining traction thanks to the ongoing support of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, there's huge potential. And Sea Forest is happy to have a seat at the table, proudly representing Australian innovation.
