Building on a solid foundation. The second session of the latest CALL initiative, “Enhancing Coffs' Agrifood Identity”, occurred at Yarrila Place yesterday with representatives from across the Coffs’ #agrifood ecosystem, including #foodmanufacturing, #tourism, #foodservice, #education, #retail, #distribution and #primaryproduction. Facilitated by Dr Jack Adams from QUT (Queensland University of Technology), and with integral support from our partners, the City of Coffs Harbour, the focus of the session was to build upon the insights learned from the previous workshop, generating ideas to develop a brand that attracts a market to match the quality and passion behind the region’s stakeholders and products. It's all happening in WA! Last week, #FFSCRC CEO James Krahe, GM Anthony Battaglia, and Digital Content Manager William Ngo travelled west to visit the SIFT - Sustainable Innovative Food Technology WA facility at the Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia and connect with key partners to advance collaborative efforts. During the visit, the team captured the journeys of WA SMEs and SIFT tenants Sonia Garcia Ayala from Bravo Gazpacho and Loic Munso from Everboost, as they pioneer the next wave of food innovation.   Launched in February 2024 by the Hon. Jackie Jarvis MLC, WA Minister for Agriculture and Food, SIFT is a collaboration between the WA Government and Future Food Systems (#FFSCRC), delivered by Murdoch University. Simplifying tasks through robotics. Dr Christopher Lehnert, Senior Lecturer in Robotics and Chief Investigator at the QUT Centre for Robotics, will be sharing his insights and expertise via a keynote presentation at For Food’s Sake on 'Progress in Developing Robotic Technology for Banana De-handing'.   In his latest project, Chris is collaborating with Australia’s #banana industry, Hort Innovation, ARM Hub (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing), BNL Industrial Solutions and Future Food Systems (#FFSCRC) to find a way to automate one of riskier and more labour-intensive tasks in commercial banana production: de-handing. Introducing Mursleen Yasin. Mursleen is an #FFSCRC PhD student at Western Sydney University, operating under the supervision of Dr Sunil Panchal, a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Food Science. Currently, Mursleen is pursuing a PhD under the ‘Capsaicinoids Recovery Project’ at the National Vegetable Protected Cropping Centre, located at Western Sydney University’s Hawkesbury campus. The aim of her research is to standardise a sustainable extraction technique for capsaicinoids from capsicum and chilli fruits and plant waste which can be easily adapted by growers in the future. The ‘Ultra-long delivery system of methane reduction agent for ruminants’ (Methane reduction supplements) project is developing a novel encapsulation method that will enable slow sustained delivery of methane-emissions-reducing feed additives to ruminants in the field.
