The ‘Foragecaster’ project will develop a planning tool that utilises seasonal climate forecasts, on-farm management practices and modelled pasture and livestock growth to predict the future status of forage, grazing livestock and farm sustainability. The tool will also provide users with the ability to develop a range of different management scenarios through its AI-supported predictions – allowing for better-informed decision making and future planning." Developed by Get Ready Queensland, the Queensland Government’s lead program for disaster preparedness, The Livestock Severe Weather Emergency Plan is a comprehensive, step-by-step solution to get producers, their property, livestock and business, disaster ready. The plan, which was developed in close consultation with industry, councils, Queensland’s Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Rural Aid has information, guidance and prompts on: ♦️ Designing an individualised severe weather emergency plan ♦️ Understanding risk, preparing a property, and packing an emergency kit ♦️ Emergency contacts, alerts, and what to do during and after severe weather. Key Messages ♦️ Primary producers see the impact of a changing climate and increasingly unpredictable weather every day. 🚨 Webinar alert! 🚨 Join the DAF Sown Pastures Team for the first of a 2-part series on legume establishment across Southern, Central, and Northern Queensland. The first webinar focuses on establishing legumes into existing grass pastures in the Brigalow Belt of southern and central Queensland. Legumes have been shown to significantly increase production and returns compared to grass only pastures, however successful adoption of legumes remains low in the Brigalow Belt. There are legume species and varieties that are suited to the Brigalow Belt that are persistent and productive in the long-term. However, poor establishment is the most common reason for these legumes failing in commercial pastures. Join Gavin Peck, DAF Principal Pasture Agronomist, as he presents trial results and discusses best management practices for successful legume establishment in southern and central Queensland.
