We're the independent peak body for organisations, and individuals promoting gender equity in Victoria.
About us
Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC) is the Victorian peak body for gender equity. We evolved in 2018 from the Women’s Health Association of Victoria (WHAV), which was formed in 1994 as a peak body for the women’s health sector. Now, GEN VIC works with a broad array of organisations across Victoria – including government, peak bodies and public, community and private organisations – to advance a shared vision of a gender society.

Its long over due for systemic change in our health and research systems. Despite the risks, pregnant women have been systematically excluded from clinical trials, leaving many like Angelie with “best-guess treatment.” This exclusion is harmful, gender-biased, and needs to change. Thank you to our partners Monash Women's Health Alliance, Women's Health Victoria and Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) for working with us to call for these changes. Read more about Angelie’s story in The Age today, and the call for change ⬇️ #womenshealth #genderbias #genderequity
👩⚕️💊 Breaking Barriers to improve Maternal Health 💊👩⚕️ Imagine being pregnant and forced to choose between untested medication for your chronic illness and risking your health and that of your baby. This is the reality Angelie O’Brien faced. With conditions like lupus, epilepsy, and hypertension, uncontrolled disease can be catastrophic for both mother and baby. Despite the risks, pregnant women have been systematically excluded from clinical trials, leaving many like Angelie with “best-guess treatment.” This exclusion is harmful, gender-biased, and needs to change. The Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas MP and specialists like A/Prof Kirsten Palmer and others from Monash Women's Health Alliance are advocating for the inclusion of pregnant women in clinical trials to ensure they receive the best possible care based on solid evidence. Prof Michelle Giles points out that pregnant women are very capable of making informed decisions about whether they would like to be part of a clinical trial or not, and Prof Eric Morand is keen for change so that women living with Lupus can access new medications, for example. Let's push for change and improve healthcare for all women. 💪 Read more about Angelie’s story in The Age today, and the call for change. Last night twenty-one trailblazing women were added to the Victorian Honour Roll for Women. Minister for Women Natalie Hutchins MP congratulated the 21 new inductees at a ceremony last night at the Arts Centre Melbourne. The Victorian Honour Roll of Women recognises the achievements and contributions of some of Victoria’s most remarkable women of all ages, experiences, background and fields. We are so thrilled for all those inducted and none more so than our former Board Director Cr Sarah Carter who sadly passed away only 2 months ago. Celebrating women’s achievements and recognising their contributions, plays a vital role in increasing the representation of women in the public eye and building towards a more gender equal society. You can find out more about this year's inductees here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etnfFJTC Read the full media release here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gdBs9e29 #HonourHer #CelebrateVicWomen #Puthernameonit #Makehervisible
