🌱💡 One of the many innovative projects being developed using FarmLab right now is this clay spreading work being done at Hawick in South Australia. A gargantuan effort by both farmer and consultant, the extraction of deep clay deposits, and spreading of 100's of tonnes of clay across the landscape is designed to bring more water and nutrient holding capacity to the sandy soils of the region - lifting soil carbon stocks over time. Great work by all involved!
Today is International Day of Climate Action, dedicated to raising awareness about the urgent need to address our changing climate. Did you know carbon farming provides opportunities to address climate change, can increase production efficiency and improve resilience? Carbon farming is managing land to reduce carbon in the atmosphere, and through the Growing Carbon Farming Demonstration Pilot, we are supporting six projects that focus on reducing emissions and storing carbon, as well as other co-benefits like improving biodiversity. See how one South Australian farmer is boosting productivity and resilience in their system through a focus on increasing soil carbon. 🌍💡 AI is making big waves in Agtech, and providing big opportunities to use environmental data to improve both sustainability and profitability at the farm gate. One of the most exciting opportunities AI brings to agriculture is the ability to monitor and reduce emissions at scale, using tools like satellite data and machine learning. Our work on Soil Carbon modeling was recently featured in The Australian, outlining how we're using cutting-edge satellite technology and AI alongside in-field soil testing to reduce agriculture’s carbon footprint. https://lnkd.in/gSSZrJVf

Session Spotlight 🎤 Agriculture has always been an essential practice to feeding and clothing humanity, however, as our populations move inexorably closer to the coast, and education draws more and more people away from a life on the land, technology plays an ever increasing role in creating the efficiency, productivity and speed required to do more work with less people. This fascinating panel discussion, including Oliver Johns, Viv Jayachandran, Sam Duncan and Jamie Condon, will offer an insight into how agricultural technology is accelerating production capacity for a growing population. Join this conversation, plus many more, on Thursday 17th October at the #2024HunterInnovationFestival! Tickets available now via https://lnkd.in/ddWbe4Jk
