Here’s a before and after of large-scale #coal mine #rehabilitation in action. The first image of Ramp 9 at our Newlands mine, was taken in August 2023 after mining was completed. The second image was taken 12 months later and shows the final void partially filled and shaped, contour drains and rock chutes being built and topsoil being spread.

Glencore recently had the pleasure of celebrating several remarkable service anniversaries of employees marking 20, 30, and even 40 years with Mount Isa Mines. In recognising the commitment and invaluable contributions to the success of our business throughout the years, 19 team members were honoured at a special dinner hosted at Casa Grande. We thank you for your incredible years of service 🎉

The Australasian Mining History Association recently paid a visit to our Murrin Murrin Operations where we have been producing nickel and cobalt for over 25 years. The group visited Western Australia’s Goldfields as part of their annual conference and made the trek to Murrin Murrin for an update on our activities. Marek, a Principal Process Engineer and one of Murrin’s longest serving employees, provided an overview of the nickel and cobalt mining and production process to the visiting group, many of whom have a background in mining and academic fields. Thank you to the Shire of Leonora, Gwalia Historical Precinct and the AMHA for a great afternoon.

This giant blue screen in the Coal Handling Preparation Plant at our Bulga Coal operation is a daily reminder to check in on your co-worker’s mental health. The colour blue is a connection to mental health organisations Beyond blue and The Blue Tree Project. Bulga has been working at reducing the stigma of mental health and actively creating opportunities to increase awareness and connect with colleagues. The best part is the initiative has been driven by the workforce.

At George Fisher Mine in Mount Isa, remote operation of underground loaders in areas where it’s high risk for people is one example of how safety is at the forefront of what we do. With the loader operators based in an office on the surface, they can control up to six loaders working underground at one time. Thanks to automation technology, operators load a bucket with material and then rely on the system to move the loader, unload the material and return ready for another bucket. These loaders travel around 15 kilometres per hour and its advanced navigation system reduces risk.

McArthur River Mine recently hosted a career development session for the women in the load and haul team. The workshop focused on self-awareness, career goal setting and personal brand. Leading the session was TRACEY WARD, a leadership and communication coach who has spent more than 20 years working with organisations and providing career coaching to women. Developing and empowering women in our workforce is very important to our business with women making up a third of the senior leadership team and more than one in five of the broader workforce at McArthur River Mine.

She said yes 💍 When it comes to unique proposals, this one from Sean is certainly deep and meaningful. Literally, deep… in fact it happened 1.6 kilometres underground at our Mount Isa Mines copper operation. Sean and his now fiancé, Missy both work at the mine and haven’t ruled out an underground wedding. Congratulations to the happy couple! Read via the ABC: https://lnkd.in/g58pUe2p

Murrin Murrin Operations has been rubbing shoulders with the community in the north-eastern Goldfields region and broader Western Australia. Our Murrin team spent an evening with students at the Western Australia School of Mines in Kalgoorlie as part of their Industry Night series. Melissa (Geology), Hizzat (Mine Engineering) and Kodhi (Process Engineering) represented diverse parts of the business and gave an informative presentation on Murrin Murrin’s fully integrated mining and processing operations. They also promoted the great opportunities available for vacation students and graduates at Glencore’s operations and spent time talking with students about career opportunities. Some of our Murrin team enjoyed a day at the pool flipping sausages and chatting to locals as part of a partnership with the Shire of Leonora to sponsor this year’s summer pool season for the local community.

Our George Fisher Mine (GFM) operation in Mount Isa recently opened its doors to the families of our employees by hosting two open days. Over 600 people were welcomed to site to learn about the work being done at the underground zinc and lead mine. For many of the visitors, it was their first time at a mine and seeing the technology and equipment their loved ones work with daily. Our people hosted interactive stalls which showcased their work and innovations and visitors donned PPE for a special tour of the underground mine. A big thank you to everyone who attended and made the open days an unforgettable experience!

Congratulations to Glencore’s Brisbane office for breaking a sweat in last month’s Bridge to Brisbane. Glencore sponsored the entry fee for 43 employees from our coal and metals business to participate in the run, which raised funding for various charities including RUOK? Day, Ronald McDonald House and Food Bank. The community fun run is one of many initiatives supported by Glencore to encourage employees to be active and live a healthy lifestyle. In addition to the money raised, we’re pleased to report that Glencore placed 41 out of the 554 teams participating in the 10km team run.
