The GO Foundation - The Goodes O'Loughlin Foundation and Aurora Education Foundation do really important work. They provide practical assistance to help a lot of young Indigenous Australians to finish high school and go on to TAFE or uni. It was a real pleasure to meet some of the students they are helping today and provide extra funding to continue and expand the work they do.

Education is the key to unlocking a better future for Indigenous young people. So we're providing more support to the GO Foundation - The Goodes O'Loughlin Foundation and Aurora Education Foundation, so they can support more Indigenous students to get ahead in life. It was a joy to announce our support with Jason Clare MP today and meet some of the amazing young people who have been helped so far.

In 2014, GO Foundation’s mission refocused to empowering through education. Since that pivotal shift, our growth has enabled us to expand our initiatives and support more young individuals each year – here are some of the milestones we have reached along the way: 🎓 In 2014, our first education scholarships for independent school students launched in Sydney. 🎓 In 2018, our first round of public school scholarships started in partnership with the Public Education Foundation (PEF). 🎓 In 2019, we expanded to Michael and Adam’s hometown of Adelaide. 🎓 In 2020, GO appointed its first Indigenous Chairperson, Sonja Stewart. 🎓 In 2021, GO appointed its first Indigenous CO, Charlene Davison, making GO Indigenous founded, led and governed! 🎓 In 2021, we welcomed Canberra to the GO Family. 🎓 In January 2022, we reached a milestone of awarding our 1000th scholarship. 🎓 In 2023, GO launched its Year 5 and 6 Leadership Days, as well as its Alumni Network. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past 15 years in our mission to empower First Nations youth through education. We can’t wait for the next stage in GO’s journey! #GOFoundation #15YearsAtGO #IndigenousEducation #AborginalEducation #BlackExcellence #FirstNationsEducation

While it’s been 15 years at GO, this isn’t the only number that tells our story! Here are the numbers we’re most proud of. 1,700 – the number of scholarships we’ve delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students 176 – the number of GO students who have completed high school. 54% of GO's year 11 & 12 students want to pursue higher education. 90% GO students attend school compared to the national average of just over 80%. 78% of GO students complete the HSC compared to the national average of 66% for First Nations students. 60% of scholarships are awarded to girls. One third of GO students say they want to work in 'caring' professions, demonstrating a strong inclination towards giving back. We take great pride in being able to witness the hard work and dedication GO students put in to achieving their dreams. Keep up the deadly work, everyone - you're making incredible strides towards your future! #GOFoundation #IndigenousEducation #BlackExcellence #AboriginalEducation #FirstNationsEducation #15YearsAtGO

Building culture and connection 🫶🏽 While GO might be celebrating 15 years in 2024, our story really began more than 65,000 years ago. It's the story of our ancestors, our Elders and the generations before us who paved the way forward with the power of culture and knowledge. At GO, we celebrate this through our biannual Culture Connect Days for students on beautiful lands, including Gadigal and Darug (Sydney), Ngunnawal (Canberra) and Kaurna (Adelaide). These days create opportunities for our scholars to explore and celebrate the strength of Indigenous cultures and build relationships with one another, with many students saying that GO’s Culture Connect Days are their favourite part of our program! Our team makes sure each Culture Connect Day is different, whether it’s learning to play the Yidaki, joining a yarning circle or just kicking the footy around. Each activity is specially designed by our leaders to inspire students while connecting them with culture, identity and community, building confidence and resilience. #CultureConnect #IndigenousCulture #FutureLeaders #IndigenousEducation #15YearsAtGO

We’ve got some BIG news to share! This year, GO is celebrating its 15th anniversary and we’ve got a packed schedule of celebrations to mark the milestone. Over the next few months, we’ll also be sharing 15 things we love about GO, starting with our origin story 🖤💛❤️ GO was founded in 2009 by two incredible sportsmen and leaders, Andyamathanha and Narungga man Adam Goodes and Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri and Narungga man Michael O'Loughlin, alongside their friend @James Gallichan. In the early days, Michael and Adam provided support to various community programs that focused on promoting healthy lifestyles, providing vocational training opportunities for Indigenous students, and donating sports uniforms and equipment to local schools. It wasn’t until 2012 on Gadigal lands (Sydney) that Michael and Adam focused GO’s mission on empowering through education, supporting mob in their journey through school and university. GO marked its first cohort of scholarship recipients in 2014. Since then, GO has expanded across three states and delivered more than 1,200 programs to young First Nations people, building confidence and strengthening identity along the way. We can’t wait to share more of our story with you! #IndigenousEducation #BlackExcellence #GOFoundation #FirstNationsEducation #15YearsAtGO
