Goodstart’s extraordinary educators and teachers are about to receive a bumper pay rise. The Fair Work Commission has granted the single biggest pay rise in the history of early education and if you work at Goodstart your salary is linked to this decision. We’re also increasing the ‘above award’ loading we pay to educators to 4% above the new award rate. There’s never been a better time to work in early learning at Goodstart. We deliver social impact on a national scale by offering evidence-informed early learning and care in hundreds of centres nationally, supporting families and influencing the broader community through our advocacy work, which aims to increase investment in the early years to ensure all children have access to quality early learning. Goodstart is a social enterprise with social purpose at its heart, but our head operates with business discipline to deliver healthy operating margins for continued investment in centres, people and programs to deliver on our vision and purpose. We operate 644 early learning centres in all states and territories of Australia, caring for 70,900 children from 59,500 families and employing 14,900 people. Our vision is for Australia’s children to have the best possible start in life. Our purpose is to ensure children have the learning, development and wellbeing outcomes they need for school and life. We are excited to announce that Catherine Jones, the Educational Leader and Early Childhood Teacher at Goodstart Kurri Kurri, has been honored with the NSW 2025 Premier’s Teachers Mutual Bank Aboriginal Education Scholarship. This esteemed scholarship aims to support teachers in expanding their understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal education. Last year, the national curriculum for the early childhood sector, the ‘Early Years Learning Framework,’ underwent revisions that now require teachers to be culturally responsive and to create culturally safe environments through intercultural pedagogies. Catherine will embark on a 5-week study tour across Australia and New Zealand to deeply engage with Aboriginal culture, explore her own connection to the land, and gain further insights into creating culturally safe environments. Her goal is to unpack the implications of the revisions for teachers, explore how to implement them in practice, and ultimately benefit the children and our local communities. You can read more about her journey here! https://brnw.ch/21wO0N4

It’s been just two weeks since the ECA National Conference wrapped up and Goodstarters are so excited to reflect on the incredible insights and learnings gained. At Goodstart, we’ve been celebrating Year of the Educator – to recognise our nation’s change-makers! So, it was only fitting that we invested in ensuring more educators could attend Australia’s largest early learning conference! In total, we had more than 60 Goodstarters attending that included some of our practice partners, teachers and educators! From all accounts, every one of our Goodstarters has benefited from attending – taking back learnings and experiences to share with their teams and to benefit everyday teaching and learning to enhance children’s learning outcomes. To share some of their learning we had a chat to Goodstarters that attended this year. Learn more here: https://brnw.ch/21wNy6c

It’s the final day of the 2024 ECA National Conference and Goodstarters have lots to celebrate! We were so proud to sponsor Professor Iram Siraj’s keynote address at the ECA National Conference this morning on ‘the Who, What and Why of Pedagogical Leadership’. Our CEO Dr Ros Baxter said in her introduction to the keynote that Professor Siraj is a “continuing source of inspiration and expert advice to our teams as we continue to support our people as they aspire to the highest possible quality”. Drawing on her decades of expertise as an internationally renowned researcher and academic, Professor Siraj provided insights to the audience in the Great Hall on the importance of pedagogical leadership in running a high-quality centre, explaining that every Centre Director, Ed Leader and Room Leader share the responsibility to create a community of leaders. What an inspiring morning for those in attendance and watching online! Last night at The HESTA Early Childhood Education & Care Awards, the amazing team at Goodstart Tuggerah were named winners of the Advancing Pedagogy & Practice Award! Goodstart Tuggerah were recognised for their innovative Interability program, significantly advancing early childhood education and care. This inclusive initiative fosters meaningful interactions between neurodiverse individuals and children, promoting inclusivity, social skills, and empathy. Huge congratulations to the team for this well-deserved recognition! As the conference comes to a close, we are reflecting on these incredible few days of insights and inspiration. We are so proud to have been a Silver Sponsor and International Keynote Sponsor for the conference this year and to have had so many of our amazing people present over the three days - be sure to check out some the photos of the awards night and the final day at ECA National Conference below. #ECAConference #EarlyLearning #ProfessionalDevelopment

Children of Goodstart take centre stage at Day 1 at the #ECAConference! We’re incredibly proud of our Goodstart Red Hill team for many reasons – and today it’s their talented children for showcasing their creativity and voices with the unveil of super-sized #ECA letters. These letters are taking pride of place on the main stage of Australia’s largest early learning event, the ECA National Conference, at the Brisbane Convention Centre this week. Goodstart is a proud long-term sponsor. What’s the story behind the artwork creation? More than 2,100 of Australia’s early learning educators, teachers and early learning professionals had the privilege of hearing the story – told through children’s voices. Children have been working closely with our amazing Red Hill team for weeks, adding their own personal touches to this special project. These beautifully decorated letters were inspired by WNDERS of their Bush Kindy program, featuring native flowers, water dragons, and birds that surround them every day, brought to life through each colourful and intricate layer. Stay tuned to hear the story in our ECA National Conference wrap-up feature next week. In the meantime, much learning is taking place at #ECAConference to affect the best outcomes for Australia’s children and their learning, development and wellbeing. Tomorrow, our Goodstart Red Hill team – Assistant Director Charmaine Greenwood and Centre Director Renee Janet Mitchell present ‘Celebrating slow pedagogy: The rituals of early learning’. What to expect from this Excellent rated team? Nothing short of an inspiration presentation, informed by research, and practical strategies to improve leadership, practice and service delivery through prioritising educator wellbeing. Red Hill will detail findings from their action research project, including the role of collaborative leadership in enhancing a positive work culture and quality practice. 📅 Day 2 – Thursday 19 September 2024 | Goodstarter presentations: - 9:55am – 10:10am: Marie Stuart & Sara Evans | Feel Safe, Be Safe: Embedding protective strategies into everyday teaching and learning - 12:05pm – 12:50pm: Charmaine Greenwood & Renee Mitchell | Celebrating slow pedagogy: The rituals of early learning - 3:05pm – 3:50pm: Marie Stuart & Shannon Kaye | Increasing access and participation in the early years Renee Mitchell Marie Stuart Sara Evans Charmaine Greenwood
