Today marks the last day of NAIDOC Week. Today and every day, we acknowledge that we work in Ngarrindjeri country and pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise the Ngarrindjeri people's continuing connection to land, waters, and culture and honour the history of our commercial partners Kuti Co, who continue to harvest kuti, a resource the Ngarrindjeri Nation has sustainably harvested for 19,000 years. Ngarrindjeri people see all living things as connected. They long for sparkling, clean waters and healthy land for all people and living things, and they implore us to respect their Ruwe (Country) as it was created in the Kaldowinyeri (the Creation). We're proud to follow the lead of Kuti Co in the sustainable hand harvesting of the kuti/pipi resource. We are one of only a handful of clam fisheries in the world to receive Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification. "I remember Summer years and years ago when we were kids, the whole family would do 3 or 4 boat trips across the Coorong, down a bit further towards Parker. We'd come across and grab a feed. And all the little ones - all the Aunties and Uncles would be like, "No, you must put them back in because that's the next lot that's gonna grow up and have more". So having that bond as a kid was great, so every time I get a chance, if I've gotta come over and do maintenance on vehicles, I bring my kids over and do it as a day trip. So we go and hike the dunes and teach them how to cockle. Then, on the way home, we'll end up running the net and get a quick feed of fish, and then we'll have cockles and fish for tea. We only take whatever we need, so if there's a family of 5, we only take about 300g, and that's it, that'll do." - Anthony Long, former Kuti Co Ngarrindjeri harvester, from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) x Kuti Co short film, Caring for Sea Country By hand Harvesting our humble kuti/pipis, we follow the example of the Ngarrindjeri People, who have hand harvested the resource for over 19,000 years. We take what the pristine South Australian waters offer. Not a kuti/pipi more.  #NAIDOC2024 #IndigenousPride #KeepTheFireBurning #MSCBlueFishTick

NAIDOC Week is a time for all of us to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's history and achievements, listen, and learn. This year's NAIDOC week theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud. The theme celebrates the unyielding spirit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices of our First Nations people. We wish to acknowledge that we work on Ngarrindjeri country and pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise the Ngarrindjeri people's continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. We also wish to acknowledge our Ngarrindjeri commercial partners, Kuti Co, who continue to harvest kuti, a resource the Ngarrindjeri Nation has sustainably harvested for 19,000 years. Kuti has been a staple food for Ngarrindjeri families for thousands of years. The mollusc is found on the shoreline of the isolated and narrow Younghusband Peninsula, situated over the rolling sandhills of South Australia's Kurrangk/Coorong, south of the Murray Mouth. Kuti Co, Ngarrindjeri and Narungga artist Cedric Varcoe and Ngarrindjeri Elders from the singing group Deadly Nannas worked with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Australia & New Zealand to produce a short film centred on the cultural significance of kuti for each generation of Ngarrindjeri.  #NAIDOC2024 #IndigenousPride #KeepTheFireBurning #MSCBlueFishTick

If you care about sustainable, local seafood, you need to get Goolwa PipiCo pipis on your plate. With a commitment to sustainability, our crew at Goolwa Pipi Co hand harvests pipis from the pristine ocean off the Coorong National Park. Using their feet, a rake, and the infamous pipi shuffle, we ensure a process that respects the environment. We then employ innovative processing and packaging practices, further solidifying our sustainable mission - https://lnkd.in/g2zuDhmE #pipirevolution #sustainableseafood #handharvested

In celebration of World Ocean Day, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) in Australia & NZ organised for school kids throughout Australia to write to sustainable fishers to share their love for the ocean, ask thoughtful questions and thank the fishers for their efforts to ensure More Fish, More Colour, and More Choice continue for generations to come. Our harvest crews had the privilege of reading these thoughtful letters, and we were encouraged by the passion for the ocean at such a young age! World Ocean Day is a chance to spotlight the progress made in sustainable fishing and the achievements achieved by our many partners with the public's support. Our goal is clear: Over a third of global fish stocks are exploited at an unsustainable rate. We need to change this. Our individual actions can add up to a bigger change. Remember to look for the MSC blue fish label to support sustainable seafood. #SustainableFishing #WorldOceansDay #ThankYouFishers #MSCBlueFishTick
