GW3 NEWSROOM | Greater Whitsunday road infrastructure projects left behind in election commitments The Mackay and Whitsunday region are still waiting for road infrastructure commitments from major parties in the lead up to the Queensland Government election this week. During the campaign, The ALP announced they will invest $157M, funded by progressive coal royalties, for critical improvements to Isaac region roads to enhance safety and supply chain efficiency, and the LNP committed $20M to improving traffic flow for the Mackay Bucasia Road, however other key Mackay and Whitsunday road projects are still unfunded. Additionally, the LNP have yet to match the $157M commitment for the Isaac region. Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) Chief Executive Officer Ms Kylie Porter said the condition of the region’s state-controlled roads network was identified as the key issue by all three regional councils and yet broadly, had been overlooked in funding announcements. “The entire Greater Whitsunday region makes an oversized contribution to the Queensland economy, with a total economic output of $74.4B annually,” said Ms Porter. “Investment in road projects across our region, not only supports community safety but it promotes economic prosperity for the entire state of Queensland. “Time is running out for major parties to clearly articulate their commitment to funding road projects across the entire Greater Whitsunday region in the next term of government.” Ms Porter said that whilst there had been some positive announcements regarding sporting and community fishing across the region in the past weeks, roads have been woefully overlooked." GW3 NEWSROOM | Greater Whitsunday region’s election priorities spotlight investment in road network. Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) has released its 2024 Queensland State Election priorities that underscores the critical need for investment in roads, housing and future industry growth for the Greater Whitsunday region. The Greater Possibilities for Greater Whitsunday and Queensland election priorities document outlines strategic initiatives and investment commitments needed for the Greater Whitsunday region. The advocacy document highlights the importance of the region’s ongoing contribution to Queensland’s economic prosperity in the lead up to the Queensland state election on Saturday October 26. GW3 Chief Executive Officer Ms Kylie Porter said the Greater Whitsunday region makes an oversized contribution to the Queensland economy, with a total economic output of $74.4B each year. “Our regional economic contribution across our key industries including mining and METS, agriculture, aquaculture and tourism is significant and demonstrates our region’s strategic importance to the Queensland economy. "This priorities document is a call to action for our state government leaders to invest wisely and ensure that the Greater Whitsunday region remains the Queensland’s economy heavy hitter." Ms Porter said importantly, these election priorities emphasise that roads in the region are too often closed in response to a weather event or incident and without action the cost to the region will exceed $1.4B over the next ten years. “Road closures and a lack of investment is costing the Greater Whitsunday regional economy dearly. “The impact to our industries and our economy is significant with the region losing $287M in revenue and 215 full time jobs annually.” Ms Porter said the biggest losses across the region’s industries included mining, accommodation and food services. "Our roads and infrastructure are not just pathways; they are the lifelines of our economy and safety”. Ms Porter said the election advocacy priorities for the region’s roads was to ensure the Queensland Government delivers planned projects on time; accelerates project planning to construction delivery and costs and plans projects that require investment. EVOLVING INDUSTRIES | The next generation of stocktaking is here. 1Logic are changing the landscape of daily stock and inventory. Gone are the days of allocating days dedicated to stocktaking. Now you can do it in a matter of minutes. 1Logic directors Paul Heel and Jim Whelan discovered many businesses were experiencing recurring issues with manual counts, barcode checks and point of sale problems. To solve these issues, they built a patent-pending ‘middleware’ solution called AIMS (Asset Inventory Management System) that combines RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) with software applications to simplify stock control and speed up stock checks. “Together, we quickly confirmed existing RFID technology limitations when dealing with stacked, bulk items, which would severely limit the system’s effectiveness. “We had to design a technology approach from scratch that would mitigate RFID’s limitations. The result was the patent-pending system we have today,” said Jim.
