Is your organisation effectively managing the risks associated with processing materials containing 1% or more silica following the engineered stone ban introduced on 1st July 2024? Understanding and implementing specific control measures for processing materials containing 1% or more crystalline silica is paramount to ensuring compliance with the regulations updated on 1st September 2024 for safeguarding the well-being of workers. To adhere to the new regulations and ensure the safety of workers, multiple dust control methods are usually required. Each person at risk of exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) should be equipped with respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and should wear it during work. Additionally, PCUBs must employ at least one of the following control systems: - An effective water delivery system to suppress airborne dust - An on-tool dust extraction system - A local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems, such as Grydale® fixed and mobile dust collectors, efficiently capture and filter airborne dust and particulate matter generated during processes like sanding, cutting, and grinding. Our dust collection systems, featuring centrifugal fans, high-efficiency filters, reverse pulse cleaning systems, and dust discharge systems, are designed to maintain workplace air quality and protect workers from harmful dust inhalation. For more information on how our dust control solutions can help your organisation minimise or eliminate the risks of RCS and other harmful respirable dust to comply with regulations and ensure workers' health and safety is protected, please contact us at enquiries@grydale.com.au.

Last Friday, Grydale® sponsored a table at the 'Footy Fever' Lunch on the Sunshine Coast to support Inclusive Kids, a charity that helps children in need. The event was a big fundraiser and featured entertainment from legendary sports figures Wally ‘The King’ Lewis and Trevor ‘The Axe’ Gillmeister. It was a great opportunity for some of our team and their partners to connect with local businesses who are dedicated to supporting local charities and community initiatives. The fundraiser aimed to help children and young people in foster care, as well as the foster carers who provide them with a loving home. Many of these kids face financial hardships, which can limit their ability to participate in community activities. Inclusive Kids is working hard to raise funds to support these children and ensure they can fully engage in their communities. If you want to learn more about Inclusive Kids or donate, you can visit https://lnkd.in/gfyzmpD6. We look forward to sharing more about the work we are doing with local community groups this year.

This Thursday was “R U OK? Day” and Grydale® CEO, Alex de Andrade, embraced this important day by hosting a breakfast BBQ to internally promote mental health awareness and to remind staff what support is available to all. Senior leaders also shared personal experiences about the importance of mental health in the open and relaxed forum. Grydale was founded with, and has developed a strong family culture that emphasises the importance of taking care of one another, just like a family does. Staff are encouraged to approach conversations about mental health with the same compassion they would with family members. Our supportive leadership team has an “Open Door” policy to encourage employees to have honest, supportive conversations, where it’s accepted that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes. The family culture at Grydale is echoed through our internal events where employees can connect, unwind, and check in with one another in an informal, relaxed setting and this is extended to families, reinforcing the messages at the heart of “R U OK Day?” To support our most valuable asset - Our People, we have also recently promoted Sara Bamford as our HR and Payroll Officer and appointed Andrew Greenslade to consult as our Health and Safety officer. Staff also have open access to Mental Health Training. Grydale is proud to be a part of encouraging staff to start conversations that can change lives and prioritise the importance of Mental Health. 💛 #RUOKDay #StartTheConversation #MentalHealthMatters #SupportEachOther

Material screening plays a crucial role in mining; however the process creates a significant dust issue which needs to be managed to protect the health and safety of workers and keep operations running efficiently. Dust results from the nature of the materials and the processes involved with separating and classifying different types of materials based on size, shape and composition. Dust can be created as materials are fed onto screening equipment, as it moves across screens and between different parts of the process, dislodging fine particles from the bulk material, resulting in airborne dust. In addition, screening equipment often involves a vibrating motion, which helps to separate materials by size, but also agitates the material also leading to dust generation. Dry materials are more prone to generating dust and can become airborne easily. Implementing effective dust control measures is critical to maintain air quality, reduce worker exposure to harmful airborne particles and to ensure operations are compliant with environmental and safety regulations. Dust collection systems (dust collectors) are an effective way to manage dust during screening operations. They do not require the use of water or chemicals which can clog screens and have a negative impact on the wear and operation of screening equipment. Combining dust collectors with screening enclosures can further act to contain the dust from the screening equipment, increasing the efficiency of the dust collection system in use. The dust collected can then be added back into the processing plant to reduce the material that would be otherwise lost to the environment or used as an additional by-product. The use of effective dust control means that operations do not need to be adjusted to limit the dust generated, for example reducing the speed of conveyors and screens or reducing material fall heights. Mobile screening equipment is also often used in mining and quarrying operations to enhance efficiency and adaptability on mine sites. Grydale® internationally patented mobile dust collectors can be used alongside mobile screening equipment to contain dust from screening process both above and below ground. With years of experience in quarrying and mining operations, our General Manager of Sales Adam Wallace, alongside our in-house engineering team can work with you to design the best solution for managing dust throughout your entire crushing and screening process. Email enquiries@grydale.com.au to discuss your particular site requirements and find out more about Grydale® fixed and mobile dust collection solutions.
