Here’s another typical Hanssen Construction success story, meet Robyn who oversees the yard. Robyn works with key personnel from site to site to deliver whatever material needs each site has to fulfil their daily task. Robyn is the first to acknowledge her climb up the responsibility ladder started as a site cleaner ten years ago. It’s from this practical place she grew her administration skills, rather than in a strictly office environment. Robyn becomes the mediator, more like an older sister, knowing the needs of site leading hands often before sites ask. Robyn’s greatest challenge is dealing with in-house squabbling and deterring any favouritism, sticking to the number one rule of Hanssen Construction ‘The Job is the Boss’. As a yard manager, Robyn is growing daily in her experience and acknowledges every day is an opportunity to learn something new. Robyn is pictured with Richard who oversees all the ex-prisoners, who get vetted for the first few weeks in the yard before they get the opportunity to go in sites. It’s not just about the buildings; it’s the many opportunities they provide for individuals and the sense of building legacy over the years. There is a joy very hard to describe a month after celebrating Boxer’s seventieth year to the day he started his apprenticeship. When talking with Gerry Hanssen, he is still thrilled to invest in honouring a man like Boxer (Brian Dunham) who is Gerry’s greatest example of a man that walks and talks ethics. The celebration was likened to a wedding feast, with family and friends coming together to remember what life really is all about, honouring those we respect and love. It was equally satisfying seeing Mike Matich, owner of Crooked Spire Coffee and Arthouse and President of the Swan Chamber of Commerce, a former manager at various of Hanssen Construction departments, MC the event.
