The Australasian Health Infrastructure Alliance has published new project resources on key sustainability guidance.    Part of the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines, these new resources aim to support project management and operations teams for both new and existing health facilities. They provide advice on electrification, electric vehicle infrastructure and climate resilience and adaptation.    The guidelines are developed by the Alliance, a collaboration of public health authorities across all Australian jurisdictions and New Zealand, administered by Health Infrastructure. The $619 million Stage 2 redevelopment of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has reached a major milestone with the new 14-storey Paediatric Services Building reaching its full height.  The new building will house a variety of critical healthcare services, including enhanced neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, cancer services, operating theatres, a new pharmacy, and more. Construction is underway on Australia’s first RNA research and pilot manufacturing facility at Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal campus, a $96 million project aiming to enhance NSW’s ability to develop and test RNA-based therapeutics locally.  The facility will enable new capabilities to develop world leading vaccines and medical therapies for humans and animals based on cutting edge RNA technology. Concept designs for the Grafton Base Hospital Redevelopment have been released, marking a significant step forward to enhance healthcare services in Grafton and the surrounding areas.  Planning for the redevelopment has been carried out in close consultation with clinical staff, ensuring a strong focus on delivering on clinical priorities and aiming to deliver modern treatment spaces to support contemporary models of care. The new Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation facility will provide specialised mental health support for adults, with consumer-focused services to support the Maitland community.  Co-located on the Maitland Hospital campus, the concept design has been released providing a look at the modern facility which will support a transitional model of mental health care, emphasising a holistic, rehabilitation-focused approach. We are thrilled to announce Health Infrastructure has won the Infrastructure Design and Planning category at the IAP2 Core Value Awards! Our success with the new Tweed Valley Hospital Development, which officially opened in May 2024, highlights the power of community engagement in creating health facilities that truly support their communities. A cornerstone of this project was our strong collaboration with the local community including local Aboriginal groups, South Sea Islander communities, and other key stakeholders. From the outset, we prioritised inclusive and innovative engagement strategies. By integrating arts programs, hosting local career expos, and organising garden picnics and planting workshops, we connected with the community in meaningful and culturally relevant ways. The 'GARDEN | Healing together' sculpture, co-created with community input, stands as a symbol of this collaboration and the shared pride in the new hospital. A huge thank you to our incredible engagement team Linda Brandon, Sarah McEwan and Monique Wakefield, with the support of project leaders Amanda Bock, Mark Brockbank and Tim Mason, and all the other dedicated workers and our partners who made this project a success. The new Kingscliff Ambulance Station has officially opened, enhancing frontline emergency care across the Northern Rivers.  The station, part of the NSW Government’s $232 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration program, is co-located on the new Tweed Valley Hospital campus and replaces a 65-year-old facility.  The modern two-level station features advanced facilities including eight internal parking bays including an internal wash bay, administration and office areas, staff rest facilities, gym, logistics and storage areas and on-site parking. HI is thrilled that our community and stakeholder engagement efforts on the Tweed Valley Hospital Development project have been recognised as a finalist for the 2024 IAP2 Core Values Award. This nomination is a testament to the pivotal role meaningful community engagement played in the success of the Tweed Valley Hospital. HI prioritised collaboration with the local community at every stage, ensuring that their needs, aspirations, and concerns were at the heart of the hospital planning, design, and development process. HI’s approach included the formation of an inclusive Community Reference Panel and the introduction of innovative engagement initiatives such as the 'GARDEN | Healing together' sculpture and the 'Garden Picnic – Seedling Workshop.' These efforts created a deep sense of community ownership and pride, resulting in a facility that truly reflects the values and needs of the people it serves. Healthcare workers at West Wyalong Health Service will soon have access to modern, fit-for-purpose accommodation as part of the NSW Government’s Key Worker Accommodation (KWA) Program.  Three new self-contained units are being installed on the site of the West Wyalong Health Service and are expected to be ready for healthcare workers to move in by the end of the year.  The units have been delivered in collaboration between Health Infrastructure and Murrumbidgee Local Health District, one of the three regional local health districts to benefit from a $45.3 million investment in the Program.
