📢Let's honour the outstanding cardiovascular and stroke researchers in Australia! Recognise the achievements of your colleagues, your team, or yourself by submitting a nomination for the 2024 ACvA Excellence in Cardiovascular Research Awards. These awards, organised into three specific categories, have a national reach and celebrate researchers at every career stage, covering the full range of cardiovascular and stroke research. 📅Nominations close Friday 25 October 2024. https://lnkd.in/gMVQ_mZe ACvA Game Changer Award This award is for a research scientist or a team of researchers whose discovery or idea in the field of cardiovascular disease and stroke over the past 24 months has the potential to significantly influence current thoughts and practices within the field. Early-mid career researchers (15 years < post-PhD) are strongly encouraged to apply. ACvA Mentor Award This award recognises the individuals who have made significant and sustained contributions to the career development of emerging leaders and to the profession through outstanding mentoring. This award is based on the experiences and success of the nominee’s mentees, not the mentor’s personal career achievements. For the purpose of this award, mentoring is defined as the process of guiding, supporting and promoting the training and career development of others. Self-nominations are NOT accepted. ACvA Translation Award This award is for a research scientist or a team of researchers who have transformed a research idea or observation from the lab bench to interventions that improve the health of individuals and the community. A clear journey from concept to implementation or along the translational pathway needs to be demonstrated for this award. You can find more information, terms and conditions, FAQs and nomination forms 👇👇 https://lnkd.in/gMVQ_mZe

In Australia, cardiovascular disease affects women and men in similar numbers but men continue to experience better heart health outcomes than women. Let’s look at some of the reasons why ❓📉 #WomensHealthWeek 1️⃣ In the past, research trials have included mostly men, with the findings applied to women. This is despite the fact that women and men differ greatly when it comes to biology, behaviour and social norms. 2️⃣ In addition to 'traditional' heart disease risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, poor diet, and physical inactivity, did you know there are women-specific risk factors? These include premature menopause, some pregnancy conditions, and polycystic ovary syndrome. 3️⃣ Chest pain is the most common heart attack warning sign in men and women, however women are more likely than men to have non-chest pain symptoms. These include indigestion, shortness of breath, jaw, shoulder and back pain, nausea or vomiting, fatigue, and dizziness. ❤️ Learn more about women and heart disease here👉 https://lnkd.in/gGdpP8FP

Happy hiking to all the trekkers taking on Coastrek Fleurieu Peninsula today! 😍🥾 These legends will be hiking for healthy hearts in the 20km or 35km from Parsons Beach to Port Elliot 🌅 So far they've fundraised an incredible $285,082 in support of their own hearts, the hearts of those they love and the hearts of all Australians. The money raised will help fund life-saving heart research and vital heart health programs! We're SO GRATEFUL for every single dollar that has been fundraised ❤️ P.S. It's not too late to get those final donations in! See you at the finish line 👋🏁 Wild Women On Top
