The HESTA team in Melbourne recently spent a day working with Foodbank Victoria to support individuals facing food insecurity. The Foodbank Hunger Report in 2023 highlighted that 3.7 million Australian households (36%) faced moderate to severe food insecurity. Foodbank partners with 2,844 charities nationwide and supports School Breakfast Programs in 3,379 schools, ensuring food reaches those in need. The HESTA volunteering initiative resulted in the team's tremendous efforts of an estimated 24,935 meals being packed, and ready to be delivered to those in need. Our volunteering program encourages employees to dedicate time to support various community and non-profit organisations. This is one of the ways HESTA is committed to fostering a culture of giving back to the community. #HESTAImpact #CorporateVolunteering

We recently held our annual Career Fest for all employees, where we gathered to be inspired, empowered, and better equipped with the tools and knowledge to turn career aspirations into a reality. There were a range of activities and sessions throughout the couple of weeks, including thought-provoking presentations, inspiring panel discussions and practical interactive workshops. One of the sessions held was a Q&A panel where employees had the opportunity to hear from some of their colleagues on their inspiring career journeys, and lessons learned. Our panel featured: Rakhee Ghelani, who started her career as a Consultant and is now the Employee and Experience Lead Nancy Graoroski, who first joined HESTA’s Contact Centre 17 years ago, and is now the Manager of Service Delivery and End User Computing Keith Duncan, who began his career in consulting and now leads HESTA’s Convergence Program Sarah Kennedy, who first started her career in sales and is now the Digital Product Lead Our panel members shared stories that inspired and encouraged following your passions to shape your career, and that our paths may twist and turn, but determination pays off. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture at HESTA where every voice is heard and supported in achieving their full potential. We know that to make a real difference to our members’ futures, we need the best people to work with us. #HESTASuper #CareersWithImpact

We welcome the Federal Government’s announcement today that the Paid Parental Leave Amendment (Adding Superannuation for a More Secure Retirement) Bill 2024 has finally passed through Parliament and will take effect from July next year. For over a decade HESTA, along with other sector voices, has tirelessly advocated for this important equity measure. This reform represents a significant step towards closing the approximately 25% superannuation gap between women and men at retirement. With nearly 80% of our 1 million-plus members being women, many of whom work in typically lower paid industries such as aged care or early childhood education, this reform is a vital move towards helping them achieve a more secure retirement. We are incredibly proud to have been part of the collective voice advocating for this important change. Paying super on paid parental leave is a key equity measure that will help our members add much-needed dollars to their retirement accounts, narrowing the gender super gap and making Australia’s super system fairer. #HESTASuper #ParentalLeave #Superannuation #GenderEquality

HESTA welcomes the Federal Government's announcement of proposed payday super reforms. These reforms will ensure that employer Superannuation Guarantee (SG) payments are made at the same time as wages, moving away from the current quarterly payment system. This change will help millions of working Australians keep better track of their super contributions and can mean this money goes into their accounts earlier, starts getting invested sooner and helps grow their long-term retirement savings. The introduction of smaller, more frequent super payments represents a significant modernisation of the system. This is particularly beneficial for lower-paid, part-time, and casual workers, where women are overrepresented. Currently, Australian women retire with around 25% less in super than men. Nearly 80% of HESTA members are women, many of whom face lower wages, financial and career challenges, and time out of the workforce for caregiving responsibilities. These reforms are a positive step toward better retirement outcomes for HESTA members and all Australians. #HESTASuper #PayDaySuper #Superannuation

HESTA is excited to announce nearly 200,000 additional members are now on track to be ready for retirement. This progress has been made over the past 7 years, shifting from a projected ‘modest’ to a more ‘comfortable’ retirement lifestyle according to our in-house model, informed by the ASFA | The Voice of Super retirement standard. We recognise many of our members are predominantly low and middle-income working women, face unique challenges such as lower wages, career breaks for caregiving, and time out of the workforce. That’s why HESTA continues to advocate for systemic changes that benefit our members and the wider community, including working with other sector voices to secure the progressive increase to the super guarantee rate which will rise to 12% by 1 July 2025, as well as advocating for superannuation to be paid on Commonwealth Paid Parental Leave (PPL), which the government has confirmed its intention to put in place from 1 July 2025. These initiatives will be crucial in improving retirement outcomes for many of our members. Several factors drove the increase in ‘retirement readiness’ such as more members making extra contributions to their retirement savings, HESTA’s strong long-term investment performance, higher superannuation guarantee rates, and better wages in some health and community services sectors. The model has provided HESTA with insights into members’ financial retirement readiness, helping to better tailor support and advice. We know retirement looks different to everyone, and we are continuously committed to helping our members make a difference to their financial futures. Visit http://hesta.co/retirement to learn more about our commitment to retirement planning and the services available to HESTA members. #HESTASuper #Retirement #Superannuation Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.
