We have again been ranked by The Times as one of the UK’s top commercial disputes practices. The Times described HFW as “a disputes powerhouse – [it] handles more commercial litigation in the English Commercial Court than any other law firm". The rankings are based on a survey of more than 4,300 solicitors across England, Wales, and Scotland. Less than 3% of law firms recommended by respondents made it into the final rankings. We have been ranked every year since The Times first published its report. We have more than 450 disputes lawyers across the Americas, Europe the Middle East, and Asia Pacific, specialising in high-value, complex, multi-party, and multi-jurisdictional disputes, with a particular focus on commercial litigation, fraud and asset recovery, insolvency, investigations, and enforcement actions. As well as advising on more commercial litigation in the English Commercial Court than any other law firm over the past nine years, we also have a higher win rate than any other top practice, and acted on more of the highest-value cases last year than any other firm. What exactly does a liability cap, cap? In Topalsson GmbH v Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited [2024] EWCA Civ 1330, the Court of Appeal recently decided that a cap is applied before net sums between the parties are calculated – which might mean you end up recovering less – but that interest is uncapped. In our latest briefing, HFW's Anna Fazzini and Daniel Johnson review the case and discuss the key takeaways. US President-elect Donald Trump has said that he will prioritise tariffs instead of sanctions as a geopolitical tool when he returns to the White House in January. But speaking to Global Trade Review (GTR), HFW sanctions expert David Savage questions whether Trump will be able to scale back the previous administration's Russia sanctions programme in the near future. You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/epdW_B9z To discuss these issues, please speak to David or your usual HFW contact. #RussiaSanctions #IranSanctions #Sanctions #TradeSanctions #TradeTariffs #USsanctions
