The current financial settings make it harder for many Australians to secure home loans. It’s time to remove these restrictions and create an environment where financial institutions offer competitive rates and terms. We also need to consider policies that empower first-home buyers, like using superannuation for deposits, and ensure builders can easily access funds. The system needs to work for everyone. Let’s build! 💪🔨 #LetsBuild #HousingPriority #AusPol #HousingCrisis #HousingPolicyAU

Today, we took our ‘Let’s Build’ campaign to Maddingley, in the Hawke electorate of Victoria, reinforcing our call for housing to be a national priority this federal election. HIA National Vice President Ian Hazan, HIA Chief Executive Industry & Policy Simon Croft, and Burbank General Manager Sales & Marketing Anthony Garrubba were joined by The Hon Michael Sukkar MP, Shadow Minister for Housing, and Liberal candidate for Hawke, Simmone Cottom to highlight the urgent need for action. HIA is calling on all sides of politics to: 🏡 Address chronic skills shortages in the building industry 🏡 Remove barriers to housing supply to keep up with demand 🏡 Establish financial settings that support home ownership Let’s build 💪🔨 #LetsBuild #HousingPriority #MoreHomesNow #AusPol #HomeOwnershipAU

For housing supply to meet the needs of our communities, we must tackle the issues preventing faster development. Planning reforms and infrastructure upgrades are key to unlocking land supply and ensuring it's shovel-ready when we need it. We need real reform, not more commentary or niche policy solutions. Builders are ready to build. The system needs to let them. Let's build 💪🔨 #LetsBuild #HousingPriority #HousingSupply #AusPol #HousingCrisis #HousingPolicyAU #HomeOwnershipAU

HIA is deeply saddened by the passing of Brian Seidler, Executive Director of Master Builders NSW, over the weekend. Brian was a dedicated advocate for the building industry, known for his unwavering support of builders, apprentices, and women in construction, as well as his efforts to improve mental health in the sector. His contributions have made a lasting impact on the industry and will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with Brian’s family, friends, and colleagues at MBA NSW during this difficult time.

The housing industry generates $105 billion in economic activity annually—but skills shortages limit growth, slow projects, and raise costs. Without investing in skilled workers, Australia won’t have the workforce to meet its housing needs. To meet the target of 1.2 million homes set by the government, it is estimated the construction workforce will need 130,000 new skilled workers in the next five years. However, apprentice retention rates remain low, and migration policies aren’t filling the gap. We need a long-term workforce strategy that promotes trades, supports apprentices, and ensures housing remains a driver of the economy. We need action. Let’s build our workforce 💪🔨 #LetsBuild #HousingPriority #AusPol #HousingCrisis #HousingPolicyAU #TradeCareersAU #SkillsShortageAU #ConstructionJobsAU
