Overqualified: Hire them. What matters is what drives people. If they're motivated to do the role, what more could you want? There are many reasons why an 'overqualified' person would want to have a role. Why penalize a reliable, dependable team member who could potentially train others and deliver with ease? I've been rejected for roles as I was overqualified. Roles I would have loved to do and would have stayed for years. Gaps on your CV - Fine by me. I've always found it difficult to understand why having a gap on your CV would penalize you in the workforce. We should be able to integrate work into a lifestyle that works for us, whether it be study, travel, career break, looking after family or simply enjoy working when you need to. The fundamental problem is the way we view talent needs to evolve. Recruitment should simply be focused on talent, value and long term (or short term) alignment of interests. Let's stop asking candidates why they want to join. Yep, I've said it. The issue I have is candidates often have limited knowledge of a company when they go through the recruitment process.
