Announcement alert! 📣 Sydney Kings Head Coach Brian Goorjian has appointed Australian basketball great Andrew Bogut as an Assistant Coach.    Goorjian said the possibility of bringing Andrew Bogut onto the King’s coaching staff was an opportunity that could not be missed.    Luc Longley, part of the Hoops Capital ownership group, backed the decision.   “Brian’s move to bring Andrew in is a smart one. His experience at the highest levels of basketball, combined with his passion for coaching, will bring a fresh dynamic to the Kings. What a season for our Sydney Flames – the biggest WNBL crowd of the season at our Pink Hoops double-header and making the semifinals, the first time in seven seasons!   As Executive Director and co-owner Matthew Denholm put it - “it will be a season that is remembered for the resilience shown by our playing group and coaching staff and the epic achievement of getting back to the semi-finals for the first time in seven seasons."   We’re extremely grateful for our members and fans for bringing the heat this season with some highlights including; 🥉 Sydney captain Cayla George and Flames alumni Tess Madgen winning bronze at the Paris Olympics 🔥 Launching our Harvey Norman Future Flames program with Basketball New South Wales 🏆 Shaneice Swain recognised as MVP 💪 Carla Pitmas recognised as Hardest Working Player Award, Co-Defensive Player of the Year and The Coaches Award 💪 Isabella Brancatisano recognised as Players’ Player and Co-Defensive Player of the Year ❤️ Member’s moment of the year went to Celeste Taylor ⭐ Guy Molloy becoming the sixth person in history to coach 350 games ☄️ Cayla George being the first player in the WNBL to secure 3,500 rebounds 🙌 Tahlia Tupaea playing 150 games 💫 Flames Cayla George and Shaneice Swain being selected in the Australian Opals Squad and Renae Garlepp (coach) and Bonnie Deas being picked in the Australian under 19s squad.   We look forward to building the Sydney Flames program going forward and are excited about changes to the WNBL that will help to propel the game.   #BringTheHeat #Basketball #WomensSport https://lnkd.in/dPVFD9dY

Congratulations to Flames duo Cayla George and Shaneice Swain for being selected for the Australian Opals squad 🙌🏀   Our very own Renae Garlepp has also been chosen to be part of the coaching panel for the Opals ahead of the 2028 Olympics.   The squad has been selected from available players at this point in time, taking into consideration those still competing in seasons abroad and others who have opted to take a break, with 16 players fresh from the Cygnett WNBL season and four who will have completed campaigns overseas.   #BringTheHeat #Olympics #Basketball

Last week, Hoops Capital hosted their presentation evening 🏆   The top awards of the night went to Kouat Noi from the Sydney Kings and Shaneice Swain from the Sydney Flames for the Most Valuable Player, sponsored by Harvey Norman.   Numerous other Kings were recognised on the evening, including: 👑Bul Kuol - Defensive Player of the Year sponsored by AAMI 👑Makuach Maluach - Michael Wrublewski Coaches Award 👑Keli Leaupepe - Hardest Working Player Award sponsored by Hard Yakka 👑Shaun Bruce - Player's Player 👑Alex Toohey - Members Play of the Year   The Flames' awards were dominated by: 🔥Carla Pitman - Co-Defensive Player of the Year sponsored by AAMI, Coaches Award and Hardest Working Player Award 🔥Isabella Brancatisano - Player's Player and Co-Defensive Player of the Year sponsored by AAMI 🔥Celeste Taylor - Members Moment of the Year   The Laurie Watterson Club Person of the Year went to King 209 Shaun Bruce.
