From running down the corso chasing ID thieves, to hosting a weekly run club that starts and ends at the Steyne, Connor, founder of Code 5 Fitness Australia has plenty of stories to tell. He sits down today to share a Round Bar Tale that involves, as he puts it, "An Australian Boxer, an atomic wedgie and a rundown tackle through the Corso". As you'll hear, the thief at the centre of this tale may have fared better if he joined Code 5's weekly run club, taking off every Friday at 5:55am before a dip and coffee at the Steyne.
About us
The Hotel Steyne is one of Manly's oldest buildings, the original pub was built in 1859 before a mysterious fire burnt the famous pub to the ground. Final renovations were made to the business in 1936 when Tooth purchased the building, since then it has become a registered heritage building. From the day the doors first opened The Hotel Steyne has been involved in all community aspects and events, earning its name as Manly's true local. The Hotel Steyne is constantly changing with the times, now with an impressive six bars and accommodation facilities the pub has something to offer everyone. Boasting ocean views, relaxed family friendly atmosphere and a variety of entertainment for all ages the Hotel Steyne really is a classic that has proven it will never go out of style.

In another edition of Round Bar stories, we sat down with Terry from the Manly, Warringah & Pittwater History Society to hear some wild tales from the Steyne's origin. Quite literally the centre of Manly since the beginning, we hear how Henry Gilbert Smith, founder of Manly, too commissioned the opening of the Steyne. In our time we have been home to everything from Catholic Mass to a Coronial Inquest and even the initiation of Manly SLSC, with plenty more ahead of us! Stay tuned for more stories 🙌🏼

We told you there’d be more tales coming and today Fridge from Manly Savers Rugby Club let us in on a secret or two, including how we might’ve had something to do with the iconic black jersey you’ll see the Savers wearing today. We have a feeling this won’t be the last story you hear from Savers so stay tuned and let us know if you’d like to join us to share your #roundbartales

Whilst the Round Bar is still recognisable, the Steyne looked a little different way back in 1936. Accessed from the Australian National University Archives, Tooth and Co, the owners at the time, catalogued images of the majority of their pubs in the 30's. We're lucky to have access today, to help us in telling the story of the Steyne. Don't forget - we want to hear your tales throughout the years, so get in touch at marketing@hotelsteyne.com.au
