Over the past few years, we've seen that our climate is becoming more unpredictable. Our refreshed water conservation campaign plays on the enduring Australian pastime of chatting about the weather. Whether you’re embracing the heat or complaining about the rain, every day is a good day to save water. ☀️⛅🌧️ We partnered with local agency Solvd Agency, who have leveraged a tech-driven approach for the campaign. By delivering weather-relevant messaging for our community, we share the importance of water saving habits – rain, hail or shine. Keep your eyes and ears open over the next few months to catch the campaign on TV, radio, streaming services, social media and more. Our values are at the core of everything we do. Last week, we brought our Learning value to life by hosting our first Learning Expo! 🎯 It was an engaging and collaborative morning for staff to discuss development opportunities, ready for their annual goal setting. Some key takeaways from the Expo were: 📚 Leveraging the 70:20:10 approach for learning on the job, socially, and through formal training 💻 Using short online content and courses to fit into busy schedules, including through our own Career and Development Hub 🔍 Exploring personal learning interests and how they can complement professional development If you’re looking for an organisation with opportunities that align with your goals and ambitions, learn more at https://lnkd.in/dExxGwc

💥💦 Get involved! 💦💥 We’re planning to build a permanent desalination plant at Belmont which is a key action of the Lower Hunter Water Security Plan. To help us to engage with our community and key stakeholders during construction, we are establishing a Community Consultative Committee. The Committee will perform an advisory and consultative role, establishing good working relationships with the project team and allowing stakeholders to share feedback on the project. ☀️💥🏗⚙️⚒ We’ve just completed our latest renewable energy initiative at Balickera Water Pump Station. This is our biggest solar PV installation yet, and will help to power the station’s large pumps and other critical water supply assets. With a capacity of 3.1MW, it marks a significant milestone in our commitment to sustainability and to reducing our carbon footprint, underscoring our dedication to creating a more sustainable future for the Lower Hunter region. It was great to be involved in the The Big Picture Fest over the weekend! Our historic Newcastle West 1 Wastewater Pump Station at Marketown received a colourful makeover with a thoughtfully designed mural. Designed by Aboriginal artist Jasmine Craciun, the mural covers the King Street side of the WWPS featuring an artwork celebrating our cultural connection to water and the Newcastle region. Last Friday, we had the pleasure to attend and present the Hunter Water Love Water Award as sponsors of the 2024 Hunter Business Awards, hosted by Business Hunter. 🏆 This Award recognises customers who have successfully implemented a Water Efficiency Management Pan (WEMP) to reduce their water usage, achieve cost savings and reduce demand on the region’s drinking water supply. Congratulations to our finalists, Newcastle Private Hospital and Stockland Greenhills, and our winner, Baiada Poultry in Beresfield! 👏🏽 Through their WEMP, Baiada has saved over 200 million litres of water, the equivalent to the yearly water usage of over 1100 residential homes.

“Making good decisions in the early planning and design stages of sewerage schemes is critical to ongoing success, generating long term sustainable benefits.” – Justin Watts, Manager Asset Solutions. Justin was recently in Cambodia as part of a Knowledge Exchange Partnership program, organised by Australian Water Association and supported by the Australian Government through Partnerships for Infrastructure. The goal of the partnership is to enhance the capacity of the Cambodian ក្រសួងសាធារណការ និងដឹកជញ្ជូន Ministry of Public Works and Transport - MPWT to improve wastewater service delivery, while also responding to rapid urbanisation and the impact of climate change. Justin is passionate about effective wastewater services to help communities thrive in an ever changing global environment. “We have an opportunity to talk to operators, engineers and economists who are emerging leaders in the MPWT. I hope that by sharing some of my experience with technologies, systems and processes, I can assist them to make more informed decisions across the lifecycle of critical wastewater assets.” Contact Justin Watts to find out more about this partnership, and how Hunter Water’s diverse asset base, built over 132 years of operating in both rural and urban environments, is being used as a case study in Cambodia. #AustralianWaterAssociation #partnerships #water #wastewater #SDGs
