Landfills present unique opportunities for ecological rehabilitation, serving as high-value after use options that promote habitat creation and enhance ecological connectivity. Additionally, these sites can be transformed into passive recreational spaces for communities. This Friday Richard Campbell will join Ruby Michael, Senior Lecturer at Griffith University and Founder of Green Infrastructure Research Labs (GIRLS) and Vishal Rajendraprasad Chulliparambil, PhD candidate in Ecological Rehabilitation of Landfill using Phytocapping at Green Infrastructure Research Labs (GIRLS). This Webinar will delve into current practices, opportunities, and challenges associated with the ecological rehabilitation of landfills, informed by surveys conducted in Queensland. They will introduce a GIS-based tool designed to identify, evaluate, and prioritize landfill sites for ecological rehabilitation. Some of the following practical phytocapping foundations for setting your landfill up for successful ecological rehabilitation will be explored: ·      Opportunities and barriers for the ecological rehabilitation of landfill ·      A GIS tool for prioritising ecological rehabilitation ·      Optimising soil density for plant water use and root growth ·      Plant selection for achieving resilient, multi-benefit outcomes Don't miss it!, Register Below! 👇 #environmentalmonitoring #phytocapping #landfill #ecologicalrehabilitation

Due to PFAS contamination - the recycled organics industry is facing the dilemma of diverting material to landfills rather than recycling it. A diverse range of Per- and Poly– Fluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) have been identified in organic feedstocks. In our recent webinar “PFAS uncovered – Innovations in mass flow monitoring and management”, we were joined by Matthew Askeland, Principal Environmental Scientist from ADE Consulting Group who explored the growing challenges industries face in managing PFAS effectively. A big THANKYOU to Matthew for squeezing us into his busy schedule and join Richard Campbell to deliver this engaging Webinar, even right before catching a flight! If you were not able to make it on the day or have missed any of our Webinars, we post all our webinars on the HydroTerra website; https://lnkd.in/gcpz7xG4 #environmentalmonitoring #webinars #leadingexperts #PFAS

A Webinar on PFAS this Friday! Join us as we talk about innovations in PFAS mass flow monitoring and management. This week we are welcoming Matthew Askeland from ADE Consulting Group. Matthew is an environmental professional engaged in the contaminated land, resource recovery, and circular economy sectors, specialising in the management of emerging contaminants. In this talk, Matthew will discuss how regulatory uncertainty and research gaps hinder innovation, leaving industries without the necessary tools to manage PFAS effectively. Matthew will be joined by our own Managing Director, Richard Campbell. EVENT DETAILS: Date: Friday 18th October Time: 12:30pm Online with Zoom Find out more and Register here 👇 : https://lnkd.in/g7Ny9zXU #environmentalmonitoring #webinar #PFAS

Our webinars are our way to connect with our community, share industry expertise, and provide valuable insights for personal, professional, or academic growth. We explore a wide range of topics to enrich our discussions. This week, instead of a new webinar, we’re revisiting two informative sessions on a topic that raises many questions: Microplastics! Microplastics are tiny plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size, often originating from the breakdown of larger plastics or from synthetic fibers. They are everywhere—in our oceans, rivers, and even the air we breathe. The impact of microplastics on soil ecosystems and the human food chain remains largely unknown, which is alarming! In 2023, we hosted two webinars on this crucial subject: 1. Microplastics in soil need more attention! But why? Presenter: Suzie Reichman Suzie, from The University of Melbourne, shared her research on the fate and behavior of microplastics in soil and their implications for human health. As the director of the Centre for Anthropogenic Pollution Impact and Management (CAPIM), she focuses on the effects of contaminants, including microplastics and PFAS, in soil. Watch the Webinar Here: https://lnkd.in/ghKuAEHX 2. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Side of Plastics Presenter: Ricki Hersburgh Ricki discussed the pressing issue of ocean pollution, which has become a significant global challenge. With a diverse background in environmental education, from the Asia Pacific Healthy Oceans campaign to initiatives in British Columbia and Australia, Ricki inspires action across various communities.
