Pioneering Natural Hydrogen

About us

HyTerra® | ASX: HYT | The first ASX company with a focus on pioneering the exploration and production of natural hydrogen. Natural hydrogen is generated through naturally occurring geological processes in the subsurface. Although hundreds of historical wells have observed natural hydrogen, explorers previously had no incentive to commercialise this resource. The urgency to decarbonise has created unprecedented political support and business momentum for hydrogen. HyTerra aims to capitalise on this opportunity by accelerating the development of natural hydrogen, an inexpensive and sustainable source of energy. A successful natural hydrogen well has the potential to produce for decades and at a lower cost than ‘manufactured hydrogen’ generated from renewable energy and electrolysis or via extraction from fossil fuels. Dr. Eric Toone the Technical Lead, Investment Committee, Breakthrough Energy Ventures shares his insights on the role geological hydrogen could play in revolutionising the energy sector. He says ‘hydrogen is pure reactive chemical energy. If I have enough hydrogen and its cheap enough I can do anything – make materials, make steel, make fuel etc. Cheap means $1/kg or less.’ ‘Make no mistake, this is the most important discovery in energy in our lifetime and probably the most important discovery and energy in our children’s lifetime…’ A great watch https://lnkd.in/gYfK5aZm

In this article, Doomberg takes another look at geologic hydrogen. They discuss the historical context and potential future impact of geologic hydrogen as a significant energy breakthrough. Drawing parallels to the shale gas revolution of the mid-2000s, the article outlines how soaring natural gas prices and concerns over peak oil led to innovations in drilling techniques. Similarly, the article explores the emerging interest in natural hydrogen. Initial skepticism around its commercial viability is reminiscent of early doubts about shale gas. However, recent advancements and ongoing research have fostered a growing optimism about its potential. The article notes that if these claims hold true, geologic hydrogen could introduce a new carbon-free primary energy source into the global fuel mix, significantly impacting the energy landscape. HyTerra’s focus on exploring and developing natural hydrogen resources aligns perfectly with the article’s insights. Our efforts at Nemaha, where we will be drilling in September, position us at the front of this potential energy revolution. https://lnkd.in/gCSZtqvc

Hot on the heels of the Sue Duroche-3 well Permit to Drill, HyTerra announced the receipt of a second Permit to Drill for the Blythe 13-20 well at Nemaha. Blythe-13-20 is another prospect within our extensive portfolio of drilling candidates currently being advanced through the permitting stage leading up to a final ranking and selection for the September 2024 drilling campaign. We are excited about this approval as it not only signifies regulatory confidence in the project but also opens up more opportunities for detailed geological analysis and resource quantification. Coverage of the announcement by Stockhead, Small Caps and Fuel Cell Works highlight that this second permit is important for scaling up operations and potentially fast-tracking the development of commercial hydrogen production. Successful drilling could position HyTerra at the forefront of natural hydrogen exploration, offering a significant boost to the company. The well has been sited around 1,400m east of the historic Scott-1 well drilled in 1982, which reported up to 56% Hydrogen in historic analyses. HyTerra has ~6500 net acres of owned and operated lease holdings geologically contiguous to this well. Overall, the granting of the second drilling permit is a major step forward for HyTerra as we progress towards drilling the Nemaha Project in September. https://lnkd.in/gefJCZhj
