Happy World Teachers’ Day! We say hats off to all teachers and educators whose dedication, hard work and passion play a crucial role in shaping the minds and futures of our children. We’re proud to start the day with six early childhood teachers from community preschools across NSW who are at the Fair Work Commission to negotiate for transformative pay rises for the sector. Melinda, Margaret, Janene, Jodie, Margaret, Bridget and Raelee are ambassadors for the IEU’s Unite for Change campaign for a supported bargaining agreement that will cover 103 preschools. We’re delighted to celebrate World Teachers' Day by bargaining for pay rises for preschool teachers. #EarlyChildhoodEducationandCare #ECEC #Preschool #UniteforChange

Zelda D'Aprano's equal pay protest: 55 years ago today, Zelda D'Aprano chained herself to the entrance of the Commonwealth Building in Melbourne to fight for equal pay. Zelda's actions in 1969 put the campaign for equal pay in the public spotlight. Today, a statue of Zelda stands proudly outside Victorian Trades Hall Council inspiring new generations of unionists to make equality a reality. #EqualPay #OnThisDay #UnionHistory

Media Release ⚡️ NSW Equality Bill: IEU calls on Alex Greenwich MP to protect school staff and students The IEU is deeply concerned about NSW independent MP Alex Greenwich dropping protections for LGBTQI+ teachers, other school staff and students from his Equality Bill. The Bill will be considered by Cabinet today. The union calls on Mr Greenwich to restore protections for LGBTQI+ school staff and students to his Equality Bill, and for the NSW government to implement full protections from all forms of discrimination in non-government schools. 🔗 in comments #NSWpol

Today, IEU organiser Tina Smith spoke to third-year early childhood education students at the University of Sydney about their workplace rights and the benefits of joining the union. IEU membership is free for students and after hearing Tina speak, almost the whole class signed up. Seeing the large pile of signed membership forms, Tina told the students: "That's a collective group of people who want better outcomes!" We warmly welcome our new members to the IEU! ✊ Not a member? Today IEUA NSW/ACT Branch Secretary Carol Matthews is at the Social Media Summit. One of the many fantastic speakers was adolescent psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg who spoke about the harmful effects of social media on young people including increased rates of anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. The Summit is a great initiative jointly facilitated by the NSW Government and SA Government. #SocialMediaSummitNSWSA #WorldMentalHealthDay
