iLAuNCH CTO, Dr. Joni Sytsma, had an incredible time at the Bray Park State High School Astronomy Night, where she inspired students with captivating footage of the recent SpaceX landing and discussed how iLAuNCH is shaping Australia's future in space. One of the key messages she shared: anything is possible with hard work and dedication. It was heartwarming to hear students leaving the event excited about their future in space, with some even declaring, "I want to be a rocket scientist!" Dr. Joni Sytsma also had a great conversation with a student eager to contribute to space sustainability by developing a satellite system to tackle space debris. The future is bright! Are you passionate about space and dream of being part of humanity’s exploration beyond Earth? Michelle Oldham is living proof that a career in the space industry is within reach, even if you start your journey looking up at the night sky. As a volunteer astronomer at Perth Observatory, Michelle shares her love for space by guiding the public through the wonders of the universe. But her ambitions go far beyond stargazing—she’s pursuing a Double Degree in Science (Astronomy and Space Sciences) and Business (Emergent Leadership) at the University of Southern Queensland. Her unique background as a qualified chef has shaped an ambitious goal: to find vegetation suitable for human consumption on other planets or the Moon. With the future of space exploration focused on sustainable life away from Earth, Michelle is blending her skills in both science and the culinary arts to one day support space exploration. To expand her knowledge of space even further, Michelle was accepted into the inaugural Australian Milo Mission Academy for Lunar Exploration, hosted by AROSE as an iLAuNCH Trailblazer sponsored student. 🌒 “This program was an incredible opportunity to deepen my knowledge of space exploration, gain hands-on experience, and work alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry.” The Milo Space Science Institute | Arizona State University 👉Read more about Michelle's experience: https://lnkd.in/g-3XWaEM Australia's Economic Accelerator (AEA) UniSQ School of Business #iLAuNCH #Trailblazers #FoodInSpace #Astronomy

🚀 A giant leap for space exploration and one of the most remarkable achievements in rocket science to date! 🚀 SpaceX has reached another monumental milestone with Starship Flight 5. They not only have successfully launched the most powerful rocket ever built, but for the first time, they used the launch tower’s arms to catch the Super Heavy booster — marking a significant step forward in achieving full reusability for Starship. The teams behind this breakthrough should be incredibly proud of overcoming such a technical challenge and pushing the boundaries of reusable rocket technology. As a research scientist at Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Science and Technology Group (DTSG), Cheryl Chan is on a continuous path of learning. A lifelong space enthusiast, Cheryl commenced a PhD in optical systems on small satellites 🛰️ at the University of South Australia. This also happens to be an iLAuNCH project where Cheryl will investigate the opportunities for additive manufacturing and high-precision technologies to manufacture freeform optical components and systems that are fit to endure launch and space conditions. To expand her knowledge of space even further, Cheryl applied for and was accepted into the first Australian Milo Mission Academy for Lunar Exploration, in partnership with AROSE. “Over the 12 weeks, we had the opportunity to be inspired by experts in the field across a wide range of areas, from technical payload designs, rover designs, to NASA mission development, project management, design and analysis tools and software, and space explorations. The major assignments throughout the 12 weeks consisted of a series of reports, simulating the reviews required in the NASA mission life cycle, building up towards the Preliminary Design Review. I would highly recommend this program for anyone with an interest in the research or development for any applications in space.” #DefenceScience | The Milo Space Science Institute | Arizona State University 👉 Read more about Cheryl's journey: https://lnkd.in/gyvM-vmT
