  • If you or someone you love is experiencing chest pain, an Emergency Department is the best place to have it checked out. The Bulli Urgent Care Centre and other local urgent care clinics are there for less serious issues, but chest pain or signs of a stroke are best managed in an Emergency Department. Remember for chest pain - call triple zero (000) or go to your nearest Emergency Department.

  • HEALTHCARE HERO | Josh Meet Josh, one of our amazing occupational therapists working in our paediatric service. The thing that drew Josh towards a career in allied health was the holistic nature of the work. “I like working from a really broad macroscopic lens, getting to know the client and understanding the different systems, strengths and barriers playing a part in their story.” ❓ Why did you choose paediatrics? “I think working as an OT in general you have to find creative ways to work with clients. However, I think this increases when working in paediatrics. I enjoy being presented with these creative opportunities in my role. Also, my personal values towards early intervention and child development are something that drove me towards this demographic. Being able to be a part of that process of building resilience and a sense of independence in a child or family's life is quite special.” ❤️ Speaking of special, what else makes the job special to you? “What’s special about my job is having the opportunity to build relationships and building safe spaces for families and kids. Being able to form an environment where people feel comfortable, supported and safe to push themselves, try new things and experience failure is important. Seeing a child go from avoiding a difficult activity due to its difficulty to then seeking it out and enjoying it is really very special.” 🤯 What’s something that continues to surprise you? “What’s unexpected is probably some of the things that come out of children’s mouths. Some of the sentences and ways of explaining things can sound so surreal and oddly poetic. I had one kid explain that when writing the letter ‘W’ they write it like a person crossing their legs because they need to go to the toilet.” 🕰️ Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What did you want to be when you grew up? “When I was younger, I wanted to be a comedian! Although I had difficulties pronouncing the word properly, so it would sound like I wanted to be a ‘chameleon’. I guess I get a new audience to try my jokes and material on each session. Sometimes they land, other times they can be a tough audience.” With your skills and experience, you can contribute to the millions of ways we're enriching health, and develop your career as part of the largest health organisation in Australia. • HEALTHCARE HERO | Dianne Dianne has been a podiatrist for 13 years. She trained and worked in the UK before moving to Australia in 2020 when she started working for us! Though it seemed she was destined to work in health. “I come from a family of paramedics and grew up playing in the back of old Ambulances which started my fascination in anatomy and healthcare. I remember Mum saying she loved her job so much and so often. I feel the same passion that Mum did. I’ve never once dreaded coming into work.” ❓ What’s something people don’t know about your role? “Most people think we just cut nails. There is so much more to our role than just toenails. I work in the podiatry wound clinic so mostly see patients for wound care and prevention.” 🩰 What is a day in your shoes like? (Excuse the pun.) “Most days are spent in the outpatient clinic seeing to wounds, cleaning, and debridement, we also need assess why a wound is there in the first place and facilitate a treatment pathway. Once a wound is healed, we help provide self-management education.” 🤯 What is unexpected about your job? Or what do you love most about your job? “We often use temporary offloading footwear and devices to alleviate pressure away from a wound – so we can make pretty much anything out of a piece of felt! And I love being able to make a difference to people. That’s the main reason why I chose a career in health; being able to help people.” ❤️ What do you respect about your team? “They’re amazing! They’re caring and dedicated, really some of the nicest people I know. Everyone in our team has this attitude to the way they work, as if it’s our mission to get the best outcomes for our patients or we won’t be satisfied.” 🕰️ Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What did you want to be when you grew up? “I always wanted to be an artist. I loved anything creative. Once I decorated my bedroom with footprints. Mum wasn’t happy but it looked great! Maybe I knew what my future held back then? I studied art at college for a time but only recently I started to paint again, so maybe one day I’ll have paintings will be in the Louvre!” If you like how it sounds, now is the time to join our District.
