Earlier this week, the IAQ 2032 Games Taskforce, spearheaded by Co-Chairs Nina Nguyen and Bradley Wood, delivered their first roundtable of the year. In what was described as a 'raging success', attendees from key organisations critical to the success of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics participated in a collaborative, problem-solving exercise. The session focused on the potential scenario of a significant increase in visitation to South East Queensland, both internationally and domestically, due to the success of Paris 2024 and LA 2028. Using future foresight techniques, participants worked through challenges in ensuring the region’s services, utilities, accommodation, and transport networks could handle the surge in demand. The highly interactive format encouraged cross-industry collaboration to brainstorm practical solutions for enhancing capacity and efficiency, fostering a resilient infrastructure network to meet the demands of a growing number of visitors. The roundtable marked an important step in preparing for potential risks and opportunities, ensuring the Games’ legacy is successful for both visitors and Queenslanders alike. As always, thank you to MinterEllison for hosting and Mott MacDonald for facilitating!

IAQ had the privilege of attending the Kangaroo Point Bridge construction site, a key part of Brisbane’s ongoing infrastructure transformation. A big thank you to Brisbane City Council and the Bridges for Brisbane project team for hosting us and giving us an up-close look at this impressive project! The Kangaroo Point Bridge is set to be a landmark for active transport in Brisbane, with dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths, featuring a minimum width of 6.8 metres. It will provide a direct, sustainable connection between Kangaroo Point and the CBD. The bridge will also feature 75 solar panels on the pedestrian canopy, helping power this important connection. Key highlights of the bridge design: > Total length: 460 metres > Bridge clearance height: 12.7 metres, the same as the Captain Cook Bridge > 83-metre mast height above the deck (overall height of 95 metres from the water to the top of the mast) > Cable-stay design with 32 tensioned cables and 5 marine piers > Pause points along the way for pedestrians and cyclists to rest and take in the views > Two unique dining options, with the Stilts above-water restaurant and Mulga Bills riverside café. This is not just an engineering achievement, but a community asset that will enhance Brisbane’s active transport network, promote sustainability, and offer stunning views of the river. What a great turn out (considering the rain) last night at the IAQ Connect event to discuss 'Managing risk and reputation through stakeholder engagement'. We started off with a comprehensive project update on the Cross River Rail project and saw some impressive engagement stats on the project so far. The panellist provided great insights and examples of projects nationally and internationally, such as Inland Rail, Cross River Rail, #WestConnex and the London Olympics. 💡 A key takeaway from the session was to start your engagement early and with purpose by getting the community involved with the project where you can. 💡 The second key take away was having your stakeholder engagement teams imbedded in the project team, so they know what is happening and when it is happening. 💡 The third key take away was to ensure everyone on the project understands and is involved in building the project’s social license and tracking it so you can provide an update to everyone in the organisation to get them involved in the process. Our amazing panellist did a fantastic job sharing their insights, opinions, and experience, thanks to Laura Jarman, Kirsty Bennett, and Sally Brough #StrongerTogether #CommunityOutcomes #BetterForQld
