To further support cost of living relief for Australian families, the program has been extended until 2028! This extension means eligible families can continue to sign up and fill the available 30,000 places, with free services running for both new and existing families until 30 June 2028. Visual and audible alerts to encourage seatbelt wearing will soon be in new Australian buses with the introduction of an Australian Design Rule. The alerts – similar to those found on aircraft – will apply to new bus and coach models from 1 November 2026 to help improve traveller safety. A response to the Productivity Commission’s study examining the value, nature and structure of markets for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visual arts and craft has been released. The government supports the majority of recommendations in the report with a number of actions already underway as part of the National Cultural Policy, Revive, including: ▪ reviewing the Indigenous Art Code to strengthen the protections for First Nations artists and consumers across the country ▪ continuing to invest in First Nations art centres and sector organisations through the Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support program ▪ supporting professional development and training for First Nations peoples to ensure that artists are treated ethically and receive a fair return for their work ▪ developing stand-alone legislation to protect First Nations traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions, including to address the harm caused by fake art, merchandise and souvenirs.
