In June, Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to legalise same-sex marriage - representing a huge victory for Thai LGBTQ+ activists and one that many are hoping will have positive ripple effects in the region. Meanwhile for countries that haven’t yet reached this milestone, local LGBTQ+ communities, advocates, and civil society organisations are still finding ways to secure equal rights for LGBTQ+ persons and same-sex couples. Here's how IWDA partner Rainbow Community Kampuchea is achieving this through campaigns aimed at increasing public acceptance and support for LGBTQ+ people in #Cambodia and through the creation of their ‘private love contract form’ that are providing same-sex couples with immediate and interim protections as a couple and family. In the latest AFFPC issues paper, Elise Stephenson and Isobel Barry argue that feminist perspectives should inform foreign policy approaches to Artificial Intelligence. Some of the current global approaches to AI emphasise human-centric development, but they broadly fail to address the gendered opportunities and challenges the technology presents. The paper includes 11 recommendations for regulatory bodies seeking an ethical, just, and equality-informed approach to AI in foreign policy. We welcome the news that Australia will be joining Canada, Germany and the Netherlands in taking the Taliban to the International Court of Justice over gender discrimination: https://loom.ly/ib5Y25k Since their takeover over three years ago, the Taliban have implemented what many are calling a system of #GenderApartheid in #Afghanistan. In an issues paper for the Australian Feminist Foreign Policy Coalition published last year, Dr. Farkhondeh Akbari and Professor Jacqui True argued for the importance of using the term 'gender apartheid' and outlined more actions governments can take to defend women’s rights in Afghanistan through a feminist foreign policy lens. Today for the #InternationalDayOfSignLanguages, we're spotlighting our partners at Fiji Women's Rights Movement for the work that they've done to make their GIRLS program accessible to Deaf girls. Some of the steps they took to achieve this included: 🧏🏾♀️ Recruiting a specialised Deaf consultant to adapt their Program 🧏🏾♀️Running capacity-building workshops for FWRM staff - so that they could learn about Deaf culture and language. 🧏🏾♀️Developing new signs for Fijian Sign Language (FSL) to include words like ‘feminism’ and ‘intersectionality’ – concepts that are core to the GIRLS program but were previously missing from FSL. Incredible work! 🙌🙌🙌 Learn more about the program here: https://loom.ly/3QKdRTU #signlanguage #deaf #asl #deafcommunity #deafculture

This month marks two years since Iranian women took to the streets to protest Jina Mahsa Amini's death. Jina Mahsa died in custody following her arrest for "not wearing her hijab properly". In this #AFFPC position paper released a year ago, Jacqui True outlined the state of #GenderApartheid in Iran and argued that #FeministForeignPolicy offers practical and meaningful actions for foreign governments to take in solidarity with women in Iran. https://loom.ly/EHCbEk8

Our flagship data program Equality Insights sat down with data champions and advocates from Tonga and Solomon Islands governments recently. They talked about how gender-sensitive data tells the story of how people of different genders experience the world differently. Collecting this data and learning from its stories gives policy makers the tools to make better decisions about how resources are allocated. You can watch the full video here: https://loom.ly/AB4Nnx0
