James Makin Advisory purchased this stunning artwork, ‘From Arve River to Miena’, 2023, by Melissa Boughey from Flinders Lane Gallery for a valued corporate client. Melissa Boughey’s painting practice speaks of an intimate connection with both wild and tamed landscapes and her commitment to revegetating native habitat. Drawing en plein air, is intrinsic to her experience and provides the framework for the development of paintings in her bush studio, where she has lived and worked for the past 23 years, located on the Kent River near Denmark, WA. Boughey completed a Bachelor of Arts at Curtin University in 1994 before moving to Southern Western Australia. In the past decade, Melissa has participated in many group and solo exhibitions, as well as being selected finalist in a number of national shows including the City of Stirling Art Awards (2023), the City of Melville Art Awards (2023), Muswellbrook Art Prize (2021, 2019), The Paul Guest Prize for Drawing (2016), Kogarah Art Prize (2015), Albany Art Prize (2015). This beautiful artwork by celebrated Aotearoa/ New Zealand artist, Gretchen Albrecht was recently acquired by James Makin Advisory for one of our valued corporate clients. As a pioneering abstractionist during the 1970’s, Gretchen Albrecht employed vibrant colour and harmonious geometry to document her search for a personal metaphysical cosmology. The acquired artwork, ‘Fritillary’, 1984 a fine example of the artist’s highly regarded practice, and a work of commanding scale and form. During a career that spans 50 years, Albrecht has established herself as one of Aotearoa/New Zealand’s contemporary art masters. After graduating from the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1963, Colin McCahon recognized her talent and opened her first solo exhibition in 1964. She was awarded the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship in 1981 and published the first of four monographs several years later. The latter half of Albrecht’s career has featured several major retrospectives, her inclusion in all major public collections in New Zealand and extensive representation in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, USA, UK and Europe. We are delighted to see this spectacular work now in our clients permanent collection! Gretchen Albrecht, 'Fritillary', 1984, acrylic on canvas, 152 x 305 cm, install shot by Michael Pham

We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of ‘Geologic Meditations, 2023’ by our client Medibank, to be included in their contemporary Australian art collection. Betra Fraval is a UK-born, Melbourne-based artist whose installation and painting practice explores the transient nature of all forms. Her graphic abstractions embody a poetic visual language referencing cartography as frameworks for understanding the hidden meanings within particular places. These scenes are often drawn from places the artist has visited.
