On Friday, we were honoured to welcome Jody Broun, CEO of National Indigenous Australians Agency, who visited our newly opened Women's Hub and Desert Yard Workshop in Halls Creek! The day included meeting the inspiring women developing unique small business ideas at the Women's Hub and view several works in progress. At the Desert Yard, Jody and the Job Pathways' team had a yarn with men participating in workshop activities and programs, as well as those managing our Containers for Change depot. 🚐 Introducing Broome Pop Ups! 🚐 Our first pop up for job seeker appointments took place in Broome at Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY) this morning. Designed to enhance Job Pathways' capacity for job seekers to connect with our services, the Youth Training and Employment (YTE) team will support the launch of the pop-up service, and our team will be available to discuss our program offerings. This week, Job Pathways joined Wunan Foundation and the Hon. Divina D’Anna to celebrate the official opening of the Kimberley Withdrawal and Intervention Centre (KWIC). KWIC is Western Australia's first Aboriginal community-controlled low medical withdrawal service. This new development, based in Kununurra, will provide a safe, culturally respectful space for Kimberley community members seeking to withdraw from alcohol and other drugs, helping them stabilise before continuing to receive other treatment. In addition to withdrawal support, the six-bedroom facility will offer treatment options for individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health issues. Job Pathways is proud to have contributed to the construction of KWIC, alongside Minderoo Foundation and Lotterywest. 🎓 Congratulations to our Revive Services graduates 🎓 This week we celebrated the efforts of Lane, Farren and Nathan who successfully completed the Revive Services program and obtained a Certificate 1 in Gaining Access to Training and Employment (GATE). Over this 10-week pre-employment course, they completed a construction project with mentoring from Revive Services team members, Charlesy and Ash. They also attended North Regional TAFE on a regular basis and enhanced their literacy, language, digital literacy and numeracy skills. They are all continuing to work with Revive Services to build, upcycle and repair furniture that can be sold through the Revive Store, complete community projects, as well as build furniture for their own use. We are excited to share our Revive's programs latest Containers for Change partnership with Lake Argyle Resort. Last week, our team dropped off 8 Containers for Change cages off and will regularly collect them, encouraging visitors and locals to contribute to the C4C mission to stop feeding the fill. Over the last two days, our First Nations Mental Health and Wellbeing course was held in Kalumburu. The course was very informative, and the trainers delivered it in a friendly and casual setting. Our Site Coordinators, Noelene and Maxwell, organised some lovely catering for the course and were able to attend, as well as support clients who attended. Thanks to Scott and Paul for their help in setting and packing up to help the course to run smoothly. A big shout-out to Maria, Paul, Matilda, Larraine and Clarance who put up their hand to join the course, which they all attended and completed. They all did Kalumburu proud, and enjoyed the course. Men's BBQ in Kununurra. A couple of special visitors from the Royal Australian Air Force stopped by to help our crew fire up the BBQ yesterday. How deadly is that?! It's great to see so many men showing up to support each other while having a yarn and sharing a feed. Men's BBQs take place every second Thursday from 12noon - 1pm at our Cocus Way Workshop, with the next being Thursday 31st October. Job Pathways is proud to announce our latest Economic Development program, the Women's Economic Development Hub in Halls Creek. The hub opened this week, with plenty of local Halls Creek women already eager to set life goals, get skills and grow your own business. Coaching and business admin is key to this program, with regular sessions aiming to help women set up their online store, how to invoice, fundamentals of business development, as well as computer training. Business ideas have already included: seed collecting, weaving, cleaning, clothing, bookkeeping, homewares, jewellery and much more!
