🏗️ Kicking off construction to secure Cairns' water supply 🚰 It was smiles all round in Far North Queensland as our team started construction on the Cairns Water Security Stage 1 Project that's set to secure the region's future water supply. The $472 million project includes delivery of a new water intake at the Mulgrave River, a new water treatment plant, water reservoirs at Gordonvale and supporting infrastructure to connect to the existing water network. Our Executive General Manager Infrastructure Rob Evans joined the Queensland Premier Steven Miles, Federal Minister for Emergency Management and Cities Jenny McAllister and the Cairns Regional Council Mayor Amy Eden to officially sign off on starting the jointly funded project - which is set to support more than 1,600 jobs during construction. The innovative project will see water drawn from the riverbank, before being filtered through the new water treatment plant at Drapers Road. We're proud to be building a legacy in secure water supply for the growing Cairns population. #JustAddJohnHolland #JohnHollandWater #JohnHollandTransformingLives

🚲 👨👩👧👦 🚇 Bikes! Families! Metro! We loved seeing all of the happy faces travelling on the Sydney Metro over the weekend for the Waterloo Station Open Day. As one of the six new fully-accessible stations on the Chatswood to Sydenham City Line, passengers with prams and bicycles and families have been (ahem) chuffed 🚆with the iconic Waterloo Station! We're proud of the John Holland team who delivered this one - and some were on hand to be part of the smoking ceremony for the Open Day and enjoy a cuppa with some of the 1.35 million people who enjoyed their first Metro trips last week. Waterloo is a fully accessible station where young and old - on legs or wheels - can jump on board a train and end up in the city in just two minutes. With the new line now operating, locals say they've got a new sense of adventure to explore the stops and communities along the way. We're thrilled that one of our Operations and Maintenance joint ventures Metro Trains Sydney, that's been operating Australia's first driverless trains since 2019, will get to connect passengers along this new part of the network! #JohnHollandTransformingLives #WaterlooStation #SydneyMetro #ItsAJohnHollandJob

How did you spend National Skills Week? We celebrated the skills of our people building city-shaping infrastructure and a legacy for Australian communities! Here's what just four of our skilled people had to say about their role in the construction industry: 👷♀️Tamara Currey - Foreman "The best part of completing my apprenticeship in construction was developing a wide range of skills even outside of carpentry, and being able to perform extensive home renovations. There's nothing more satisfying than looking at a project and saying 'I can do that!'" 👷🏽♂️Caleb Kilduff - Apprentice Carpenter "The best part of doing an apprenticeship is building skills for future career development in construction and getting paid." 👷🏻♀️Violette Pairault - Junior Engineer "I love working in a team to help build infrastructure that leaves a long-lasting impact on the community." 👷🏼♂️Matthew McCann - Site Manager "Since completing my apprenticeship I have built lasting friendships and relationships with so many project teams. The people I have worked with and work with today are the best part of my job!" Have you got skills to bring to the team at John Holland? 🙌🏽 Putting the 'S' in ESG - Frontrunner of The Year Award - for our Hobsons Bay Main team! 🏆 Our team delivering Melbourne Water's Hobsons Bay Main Sewer project won this prestigious award at Social Traders' National Game Changer Awards (VIC & TAS) in major recognition of the team's significant achievements in social procurement and inclusive project management. These include: 💰 Exceeding its targeted social procurement spend on employing disadvantaged job-seekers and partnering with social enterprises by 200%. 👷♀️ Achieving gender parity, including women filling 50% of engineering roles, where the national average is 13%. 🙋🏽♀️ Implementing an ambitious diversity strategy, which includes designing roles to increase the uptake and retention of people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and women who have experienced family and domestic violence. Stakeholder and Social Inclusion Manager Rebecca Smith accepted the award on behalf of the team and said a focus on making genuine impact was the key to their success. "This project demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a more inclusive and socially responsible work environment, challenging traditional construction industry norms and setting a new standard for future projects." #JohnHollandTransformingLives #ItsAJohnHollandJob #JohnHollandAtHeart

As we celebrate 75 years of John Holland, we’ve been talking to the people who’ve made us who and what we are today. One of those is Danny Tamburini, who recently retired after decades with John Holland. He worked on water projects during the last 20 years of his time with us – most recently as a Lead Supervisor with our Delivering 4 Customers (D4C) team delivering capital and maintenance works for Sydney Water. His favourite project during that time? The '3 Towns Sewerage Scheme' - which delivered sewerage infrastructure to the towns of Glossodia, Freemans Reach and Wilberforce, in north-west Sydney. "We had an outstanding team and delivered it well below the budget and program, thanks largely to the successful use of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)," he said. "We also did some great work locally and won some environmental, community and safety awards. "I will always have fond memories of the projects I've worked on, the amazing capability that John Holland has, and the thousands of people I've met along the way. "Good, talented people, some of whom I consider friends for life!" #ItsAJohnHollandJob #JohnHollandTransformingLives #JHPastPresentFuture #JohnHolland75

Executive General Manager & Managing Director Rail & Transport Division. Non Executive Board Director.

After yesterday’s opening of the City & Southwest portion of Sydney Metro along with the highlights of day 1, operations it was great to use the metro for my morning normal commute this morning from Victoria Cross, and I have to say the vibe and atmosphere on trains and stations was fantastic with a real buzz in the air. Great start to the day for my trip to work. A great customer experience give the metro a try. Game changer.
