😮 As a Tier 1 construction company operating for 75 years, we've got plenty of experience and capability building big bridges, tunnels, roads and railways - but did you know we also built one of the world's biggest crocodiles? John Holland delivered the 250-metre-long saltwater crocodile shaped hotel in the Northern Territory community of Jabiru in 1988 for the value of $1.4million - becoming one of the world's most distinctive luxury hotels. 🐊 Needless to say, the crocodile hotel in Kakadu National Park is one of the more unusual and complex designs our building teams have ever worked on. The building itself curves in three directions, including the outside walls which curve to form the stomach and tail which then curves away from the body. It's this variety of curves that means every hotel room has a slightly different shape and saw us employ a fulltime surveyor to individually set out every wall dividing the 110 bedrooms. 👷🏽♂️ Construction of the building was undertaken in three separate areas, with three projects crews simultaneously working on their own section. 🛁 We also fitted out the hotel, with luxury appointments in earthy tones to reflect the surrounding landscape. Now owned by the local Gaagudju people and operated by Mercure Hotels, the Crocodile Hotel is a proud backdrop for Kakadu tourism, playing a vital part in keeping Indigenous Australian culture and storytelling alive. #JohnHolland75 #JHPastPresentFuture #BuiltByJohnHolland #JohnHollandTransformingLives

We're wrapping up our Indigenous Business Month focus on the amazing Indigenous business partners we work with, this time by introducing Holly & Co Procurement. John Holland's Ballarat Base Hospital Redevelopment Stage 2 team was proud to be Holly & Co's first ever project to supply with fire service consumables. 🧯This contract has led to many new clients engaging Holly & Co to supply broader construction consumables as well as fire services products. 🧒🏽 With profits being donated to Berry Street Victoria, Holly & Co is now helping to make a bigger difference to children living in foster care, which is company Founder Holly Simpson's mission: Working with the construction industry to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged young people. We love this story of building an Indigenous business and rebuilding lives! Message from Acting CEO Glenn Palin I'm honoured to be given the responsibility to be Acting CEO at John Holland while we work to recruit the replacement for outgoing CEO Joe Barr. I’ve been associated with John Holland for more than 30 years: it’s a great company with an exciting pipeline of projects across Australia and New Zealand. I'd like to thank outgoing CEO Joe Barr who has stepped down from the role after eight years of leadership. Joe led the company through significant growth, from a revenue of $2.8 billion in 2016 to $7.2 billion in 2024, and work in hand of $21 billion. He made significant contributions, particularly in the important areas of diversity, equity and inclusion, closing the gender pay gap and wellbeing of workers. He was also a driving force behind John Holland's commitment to net zero. Over the coming months I'm looking forward to getting out on our projects and offices, meeting our teams, and working with our customers.

🙌🏽 In a major trifecta for John Holland, three of our people took home titles in the 2024 NAWIC VICTORIA Awards which recognise the contribution of women and their allies to the construction industry. 🌳Ensuring her Environmental Team is embedded in the tender discussion for new construction projects, Rebecca Valkan is the Winner of the 2024 Health, Safety and Environment Award for her dedication to provide the best HESQ expertise at the best possible time. This approach has led to great benefits for environmental outcomes across North Western Program Alliance projects, including better project pricing and reduction of large risk items. 🏥Congratulations to Kate Hogan, our Social Procurement Manager who won the Stakeholder and Media Management Award for leading many stakeholder engagement initiatives in the Ballarat community as we deliver the Ballarat Base Hospital Stage 2 development. Kate has supported local organisations who work to assist women fleeing domestic violence and has leveraged our capability in the community to positively contribute to the region's culture through her leadership in strong stakeholder and community engagement. 🤝As far as allies for the advancement of women in the construction industry go, Greg Rafferty has gone beyond his role to drive change in advancing gender equality in construction, building and related industries. Working with social enterprises and Indigenous businesses, Greg has lead a number of initiatives across project sites to support women who have experienced family violence and homelessness. 🏆Congratulations Beck, Kate and Greg! Congratulations also to the following John Holland finalists who received a commendation: 👷🏻♀️ Yidan zhai - Emerging Leader Award 👷🏻♀️ Irena Malliaras - Young Achiever Award And to all our 2024 NAWIC Victoria Awards finalists: Kate Rowan, Stéphanie Dreyfuss, Melissa Monalto, Jo Dougan, Emma Jones, Alice Bright and Rhiannon Phillips #JohnHollandWomenInConstruction #JohnHollandTransformingLives #ItsAJohnHollandJob #JohnHollandAtHeart

🚰 Water: it’s in our blood. Over our 75-year history, we’ve never been afraid to get our hands dirty - or wet, for that matter. We’re proud of the role we’ve played in securing Australia’s water future through projects like the 270km-long Wentworth to Broken Hill pipeline in western NSW, the Chaffey Dam and spillway near Tamworth, and the Sydney and Gold Coast desalination plants. Along the way, we’ve built long-term relationships with some of the country’s largest water authorities, including Melbourne Water, Sydney Water, Queensland Urban Utilities and SA Water. Today, as Australia’s premier water and wastewater contractor, we continue to deliver innovative, value-driven solutions for our customers – projects like: 💦 the upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre and 💦 the North West Treatment Hub for Sydney Water 💦 the Western Treatment Plant for Melbourne Water 💦 the Cairns Water Security Stage 1 package for Cairns Regional Council 💦 the Lake Macdonald Dam upgrade for Seqwater on the Sunshine Coast 💦 and the Belmont Desalination Plant for Hunter Water   And while it just so happens to be National Water Week, join us in raising a glass to H2O! #JohnHolland75 #JustAddJohnHolland #ItsAJohnHollandJob #JohnHollandTransformingLives #NationalWaterWeek2024

If you're an engineer, this brain teaser has got to beat guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar! 🤔  How many precast concrete segments are being produced for the Sydney Metro West tunnel between The Bays and Hunter Street?  😮 16,536 segments are needed, and we've produced more than 8,000 so far! Our tunnel boring machine (TBM) Jessie, who started chewing her way towards Pyrmont in June, has completed more than 650 metres of the 2.3-kilometre journey towards Hunter Street in the CBD, so these segments are being installed in the tunnel behind her under Johnston Bay.  We know it's hard to know what's going on underground, but these photos show you how the segments are laid into place to become the tunnel you'll be travelling through one day! And while you've been counting the segments, we've just laid another piece of the tunnel puzzle. #JohnHollandTransformingLives #SydneyMetro #TunnelSegmentsNotJellybeans
