Grace Mason GAICD, Partner in KordaMentha’s Financial Crime team represented the firm before Parliament of Australia this morning regarding the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Amendment Bill 2024 (‘The Bill’). KordaMentha welcomed the opportunity to participate in further debate in Canberra today, as Senate continues to consider proposed changes to the Bill. As the only representative from the advisory and consulting sector, KordaMentha fully supports the proposed changes to modernise and simplify the existing regime, as well as including the additional sectors into the regime. However, we have strong reservations in relation to the proposed implementation period to allow for impacted businesses to realistically start building their processes, systems and controls to achieve compliance. Last week, AML Ops and KordaMentha hosted the 'Managing AML operational teams through large scale transformations' breakfast panel in our Melbourne office. We welcomed panellists, Sharon C. from Risk & Security Management, Byron Tidswell MAICD from Sportsbet and Daniel Rule from Endeavour Group to share their perspectives and experiences on the challenges and complexities of managing operational functions during large-scale financial crime transformations. Moderated by Alice Saveneh-Murray, Partner in KordaMentha’s Financial Crime team and Managing Director of AML Ops, some key takeaways to the discussion include: • Large scale transformation is not for the faint-hearted - but it can be an exciting and rewarding process to be a part of. • There are a multitude of ways to undergo transformation, communication between stakeholders is key to success. • Making mistakes is inevitable and a valuable part of learning if you are open to them. This panel is part of our ‘Operational Excellence’ series, designed to provide a platform for professionals in first line and operations functions to expand their network and knowledge share. Our next event is scheduled for early 2025, you can register your interest by completing this EOI form https://lnkd.in/gEnfZv8T. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the vibrant discussion. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and driving excellence in our industry. #KordaMentha #FinancialCrime #AML #OperationalExcellence #RiskManagement
