I joined KPMG in 2022; prior to this I was working with KPMG from an alliances and client perspective which gave me a unique perspective on consulting firms. Driven by curiosity and the desire for a new challenge, I was able to bring my security knowledge to a fresh context within the industry. Reflecting on my KPMG experience, the people and the collaborative environment stand out to me because there is so much diversity and multi-disciplinary teaming, particularly due to the dynamic nature of the industry and the clients we serve. We emphasise that while clients may share common problems, the solutions available in the market aren’t one-size-fits-all, so the way we tackle this is tailored by elements including industry, regulatory requirements and maturity. The way we communicate and articulate this is different across each of our clients, which keeps me excited and motivated. It’s also important to not forget continuous learning and the value of learning. KPMG provides opportunities and experiences for people to focus on the skills that resonate with their interests, creating a safe environment for individuals to refine their expertise and find their niche within the professional world. My journey didn’t start in IT or cyber, but I upskilled in order to work with clients and solutions. My advice to others is to look at the soft and technical skills that you are passionate about. Don’t just look at titles and functions – instead, simplify it, and consider the nature of each task and goal. Often we narrow or confine ourselves too much to what we perceive as a good job or role, but look outside the box and allow yourself to experiment and develop your skills with a new challenge or opportunity. It’s OK to not know when you finish university, but figure it out as you go – so have fun, try different things and be comfortable knowing you can pivot anytime throughout your career! I originally joined KPMG Vietnam in 2018 as a graduate. International experience has always been really important to me, so I undertook a secondment to Cambodia for six months, and then I moved to KPMG Australia in 2022. Having that initial experience in Cambodia was really beneficial for my development, both personally and professionally. Experiencing a new culture opens so many possibilities and challenges that stretch how you think as everything around you is different. It’s not just those technical skills that you gain, it’s the soft skills you need in life. You gain so many transferable skills that you can take anywhere. I’ve now been with KPMG for two years. I really love the firm, because there are so many different cultures here to explore, the firm is very supportive, everyone is very open and friendly, and welcoming to new people, it feels like a big community. I am a naturally shy person and find it hard to proactively introduce myself, but I found here it was easy to make friends through work. Being an ACCA member helped transition smoothly to the Australian market as it offers a fast-track pathway into the Australian accounting industry. The comprehensive knowledge gained from ACCA in accounting and auditing is not only relevant but also closely mirrors real-world scenarios. It provided recognition when engaging with clients, an advantage that is particularly beneficial for those new to the industry or market without any comparable experience I also really enjoy the flexibility here. For me, it means I can express how I want to approach a problem, and bring new ideas, I can try to solve a problem myself but also know I’ll have that support and guidance when I need it. There is so much opportunity and challenges which continues to stretch you to keep developing and progressing. For anyone exploring an international move, I would say use those around you to ask questions. Cultures are different from both working and personal life; it may take a little time (I moved here by myself) but it’s worth it and you will find your way with support around you Explore Life at KPMG https://lnkd.in/gq3dTsmw

    Foresight and communications, KPMG Futures

Last week I hosted a panel at SXSW Sydney using our Disruptive Futures tarot cards as a mechanism to explore what worlds might emerge by 2050. By creating cards that represent potential forces, drivers and outcomes, we were able to play with scenarios through a compounding and converging lens, with a particular focus on AI. Thank you for taking the risk Myfanwy Wallwork, Rosh Singh Sarah Vega 😀 KPMG Australia
