Hustle culture is over folks. The grind is so last season. We’ve moved on to radical kindness, radical wonder, radical optimism. We’re sitting in nature, ganging up on problems not people and cooking up rebel schemes to make the world a better place. Two ways to help your workshop participants check-in at the start of the day using Lego. 🗺️ Day 1 this week was a Lego “map” - pieces scattered around a question at the entrance where folks ticked the item that said something about how they were feeling 🪑 Day 2 was musical chairs - all the chairs were lined up at the entrance with a Lego piece on each seat for folks to choose one that said something about how they were feeling then wheel to ANYWHERE other than where they sat yesterday This short self reflection mindful moment is an opportunity for folks to check in with their internal weather so they know how they’re showing up. And the invitation (not forced) to share what the object meant can remind us how people see the same thing so very differently as well as the benefits of keeping an open mind. Simple quick ways for play to amplify connection to self and others. I mean, why wouldn’t you?! #play #leadwithplay #legoseriousplay #lsp #teamdevelopment #connection #workshophacks #facilitation #training

Mentally re-energising and engaging your workforce with extraordinary people experiences | Play Pioneer | Keynote Speaker | Learning Experience Designer
Employers who want to re-energise your workforce, it's time you discovered the power of serious play. "Employers are reassessing how they praise staff and helping individuals connect their work to a broader purpose, as they try to re-energise a rising number of employees who feel stuck in their jobs due to a weakening labour market." The Australian Financial Review calls out that employees are fearful of losing their jobs, so they're working even harder. This leads to burnout, quiet quitting and a high levels of disengagement. "Last year, about 155,000 Australian employers collectively lost more than 655,000 days of work to workplace mental health injuries, according to Allianz Australia data. The average length of time off for each claim was 76 days." Here are three ways play can mentally re-energise your workforce: 1. Play activates the brain's reward pathways, increasing dopamine levels. This neurotransmitter is crucial for motivation, pleasure, and reinforcement learning, making individuals more engaged and motivated. 2. Play is our brain's favourite way to learn. Psychologist, Dr Karyn Purvis’s research shows that it usually takes 400 repetitions to create a new pathway in the brain and through play, it only takes around 10-20. 3. Through play, neural circuits in the brain undergo a process of refinement, a kind of mental gardening. Synaptic potentiation is where connections between neurons associated with play experiences are strengthened, and synaptic pruning eliminates weaker or less relevant connections. I'm here to help you mentally re-energise your workforce. Let's connect and explore how to make that happen within your organisation. Have you ever noticed that kids often don’t need anything fancy to have fun? No equipment, just a few minutes of freedom and pretty much anything can be a joyful play-break. Even a pile of dirt, as modelled here by the baby version of Erin, Lead With Play Chief Play Officer in the sapphire mining town she grew up in. In the serious-pants worlds of agile, human centred design and product development we might call this a MVP or “minimum viable product”. So what’s your play MVP? What’s the smallest amount of time, energy and resources it would take to get you having a play-break? 🎶 dance to a favourite song? 📱 call a friend? 🌱 go pull out some weeds? 👍🏻 challenge someone to a thumb wrestle? 🖊️ draw a thank you card for someone? ☕️ find a new coffee shop to visit? 🎭 watch an episode of one of your all time fave comedy shows ⛰️ go run down a pile of dirt! The options are endless to give yourself a little joy and energy boost! #play #leadwithplay #joy #childlikewonder #joy #wellbeing #brainbreak #socialemotionallearning
