Legal Aid NSW reposted this
The Federal and State-Territory Attorneys-General are meeting tomorrow to agree to the allocation of the $3.9 billion investment in legal assistance announced at the National Cabinet meeting on domestic violence a few weeks ago. Legal Aid Commissions across Australia are calling on the Attorneys-General to prioritise the impact legal assistance can make for victim-survivors of gender-based violence by allocating funding that will allow more women and children to access legal representation in the Family Court. https://lnkd.in/gmF5j7ZZ

Legal Aid NSW was pleased to meet with The Hon Michelle Rowland MP this morning to talk about our domestic violence legal services and how we can support the electorate of Greenway and NSW more broadly, including through the work of our Domestic Violence Unit, Family Law Service for Aboriginal Communities and Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Services. We spoke about the importance of private practitioners, who complete 69 percent of legal aid casework. The Blacktown area has the highest rate of DFV assaults in Greater Sydney, making access to legal aid essential.
