Lexus RZ customers can expect an even more energised driving experience when the updated model arrives later this year. The Kaizen approach for continuous improvement builds on the Lexus RZ’s outstanding luxury and refinement, with a fully redesigned Battery Electric Vehicle system increasing motor output and reducing charging time. Lexus International Chief Engineer Shinya Ito said Lexus is committed to refining electrification technologies to enhance the fundamental joy of driving. “Lexus will continue to push the boundaries of its signature driving experience by seamlessly integrating cutting-edge hardware and software,” Mr Ito said. The local lineup will start with the RZ 500e, the new badge reflecting a 50kW increase in power to 280kW. A new high-performance hero in the RZ 550e F-Sport will also join the range. The RZ 550e F Sport’s higher-output front and rear motors combine to produce 300kW for a more powerful and exhilarating driving experience. F Sport will also be offered with the latest iteration of the innovative Lexus Steer-by-Wire system, coupled with a uniquely designed steering wheel. The diversification of the Lexus Australia range continues with the confirmation that the highly anticipated RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid will be available this April. The RX represents a major milestone for the brand following the global debut of the RX 400h in 2004—the world’s first luxury SUV with an electrified hybrid powertrain – helping spark what would become the Lexus legacy for innovation with lower CO2 tailpipe emission technology versus comparable petrol-only vehicles. Today, more than 3 million Lexus vehicles featuring a hybrid or plug-in hybrid battery-assisted powertrain have been delivered to customers around the world. “Plug-in hybrid is a key step in the customer journey from standalone internal combustion engines to full-electric mobility,” said Lexus Chief Executive, John Pappas. “For many Lexus customers, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are the right powertrain for the moment, offering the best of both worlds as the nation continues to develop infrastructure to support a greater uptake of battery electric vehicles.” The bolstered Lexus RX lineup will imminently consist of three powertrains – including hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles – in a choice of two or all-wheel drive, and with seven trim grades and two enhancement packs. Australians bought 10,164 electrified Lexus vehicles last year, the second highest result in the brand’s 35 years in Australia. In fact, three out of four Lexus vehicles sold last year were electrified – a testament to the Lexus brand’s leadership in the hybrid luxury vehicle market. The Lexus NX luxury SUV continues to lead the charge, with 4,768 deliveries of the hybrid NX 350h and plug-in hybrid NX 450h+ models. The NX’s electrified powertrains are a preferred choice among Australian customers, solidifying its position as a key model in the Lexus lineup. “From a disruptor brand with a niche lineup, we have evolved into a fully established luxury lifestyle brand with an extensive portfolio of vehicles that includes EVs, plug-in hybrid EVs and hybrids,” said Lexus Australia Chief Executive, John Pappas “Our lineup reflects our determination to adopt a multi-pathway approach on our journey towards electrification, ensuring that no customers are left behind.” The mix of sales from HEV, PHEV and BEV powertrains accelerated to a new high of 74.5 per cent of total Lexus sales in 2024, up from 60.4 per cent in 2023 and 46.3 per cent in 2022. Over the past 12 months, Lexus Australia has made huge strides on and off the road, diversifying its vehicle offering and extending lifestyle opportunities through the evolution of the Encore Owner Benefits Program. In March, the dynamic, compact Lexus LBX hit Australian showrooms and, as of December 2024, there are over 1200 LBXs on Australian roads. The month also marked the launch of Encore Elevate, extending the benefits of the program to more Lexus owners than ever before. A few months later, the performance-packed Lexus LBX Morizo RR was confirmed for the Australian market, arriving early 2025. Additionally, the highly anticipated Lexus GX hit the dealership network and will continue to be delivered into 2025. More recently, October marked the global reveal of two new Lexus LX variants, an all-new hybrid powertrain in the LX 700h, as well as a new Overtrail grade.
