Yale University’s endowment and its large allocation to alternative assets have been the standard bearer for endowment-style investing and a worthy subject of emulation among long-term focussed institutional and sophisticated investors for decades. However, we believe investors tempted to simply dive straight into allocating large sums of money to illiquid investments are missing a trick.
