  • Let the Season Begin! 🏖️ It's that time of year again! The red and yellow flags are officially up, marking the start of the volunteer patrol season. Our dedicated lifesavers are ready to keep our beaches safe all summer long. ❤️💛 Remember to swim between the flags and stay safe in the surf! 🌞

  • On Sunday, 8 September, Exercise Deluge took place in Cairns. This joint flood response exercise brought together the SES and around 10 members from North Queensland Emergency Response Groups (ERGs), along with several SLSQ staff. The goal was to practice working together during flood situations, especially focusing on rescuing people from dangerous waters. The exercise involved some pretty realistic flood scenarios, where everyone had to work quickly and efficiently to manage rescues, keep communication flowing, and ensure everyone’s safety. It was all about seeing how well the different teams could coordinate under pressure. The teams learned a lot about improving communication between agencies, refining their search and rescue strategies, and understanding each other's roles better. Plus, it was a great chance to practice making quick decisions in a high-stress environment. All in all, Exercise Deluge was a success, helping SLSQ, SES, and others to be better prepared for any real-life flood emergencies in the future.

  • We're thrilled to announce our new Major State partner, Anaconda. The partnership will include the Anaconda brand on the sleeve of our iconic red & yellow surf lifesaving shirts, rolling out across Queensland's beaches this season. SLSQ will be able to leverage the funds and expertise of Anaconda to help us with our summer safety campaigns, particularly in tailoring our safety messaging to parts of our State where there are many ocean dangers. The partnership will also allow for critical drowning prevention messaging to Anaconda customers where appropriate - a truly win/win situation for us all. Anaconda will be launching an exclusive range of Surf Life Saving merchandise across all stores later this year. You wont want to miss out on the sneak peak of the range so stay tuned! We appreciate Anaconda's support in keeping our Queensland beaches safe. Here's to a safer summer for all!

  • Our beaches are heating up and so we begin our recruitment drive for new lifesavers. There's some misconceptions out there about what it means to be a lifesaver, so here are some facts: ✔️ We only need 5 hours patrolling a month, not every weekend ✔️ You don't have to go in the water to wear the red and yellow, you can train for our "on land" roles such as an Observer, First Aid Officer or Radio Operator ✔️ You don't need to be a certain age or fitness level, we have lifesavers in their teens through to their eighties! We call out to all of our LinkedIn followers to connect with their local Club, we need all the experience and life knowledge you have to keep our beaches safe and Clubs thriving into the future! If you'd like to find your local Club, we can help - comment below or click here for more: https://lnkd.in/gCaQb9mh
