We’re over halfway through National Carers Week, and today we want to shine a light on young carers (people aged under 25). Our Carer Gateway team recently coordinated a day trip for young carers to Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. The day enabled the group to take a break from their caring duties and connect with other young carers. This week is National Carers Week, a time when we celebrate and raise awareness of the 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to a family member or friend. According to the 2022 National Carer Survey, 56% of carers report that they feel socially isolated, and one in two carers report high levels of distress. Our Carer Gateway program is partnering with Inclusee to digitally connect carers with shared interests through a range of online social clubs. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted for many of us the incredible contribution of our early childhood educators. We learned just how critical their work is to a functioning society, not only allowing parents to work and vital community services to continue to operate but also educating our youngest community members and ensuring them a good start in life. September 4 is Early Childhood Educator Day, a day that recognises the work of our early childhood educators. To mark the day, we sat down with LiveBetter’s Head of Childhood Education and Development, Jenny Nalder. Jenny has worked for LiveBetter for nearly 27 years, and in that time has seen significant change, both at LiveBetter and in the early education sector. News alert! 🎉 We are thrilled to announce that today our new premises in Tamworth was officially opened by LiveBetter President, Dr Peter Mangles, LiveBetter CEO, Natalie Forsyth-Stock and Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Russell Webb. LiveBetter has partnered with the Hunter New England Local Health District to deliver the Out of Hospital Care (OHC) program to help inpatients transition safely from hospital to home in Tamworth and surrounds. It was wonderful to share the occasion with many of our local interagency partners and we look forward to partnering with the residents of Tamworth and surrounds to deliver high quality in-home supports now and in the future. A few weeks ago, we posted about our partnership with Charles Sturt University to trial an innovative 10-week program aimed at supporting older Australians to remain in their homes for longer. Two groups of LiveBetter customers from Orange and Wagga Wagga are now halfway through the program, and our roving reporter Justin recently caught up with the Orange group to find out how it’s going.
