Starting my own business and transitioning into consulting has been an exciting yet daunting journey. I decided to step away from being the "safety person" under someone else's rules to influence safety differently. Today marked the end of a productive two-day session, facilitating a comprehensive Baseline Risk Assessment for Loftus Contracting Pty Ltd in collaboration with their frontline workers. While commonplace in mining, such assessments are not as common in construction. It was enlightening to work with a company open to this crucial process. The workers were engaged, realising the extensive legislation governing their daily activities. Encouraging open communication, they shared valuable insights on aligning procedures with the reality of their work environment. Looking ahead, I am eager to deepen my collaboration with Loftus, exploring Work as Imagined (WAI) and Work as Done (WAD) concepts, integrating Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) into their operational frameworks. Excited for the journey ahead!

Our Building Project Manager, Shaun, had a fantastic day with the curious minds at GLADSTONE WEST STATE SCHOOL's Vacation Care program. He took a break from our ongoing school renovation project for Qbuild to engage with the kids in a fun and informative session. Shaun shared insights about tool safety and the various types of tools we are using at the renovation site. He explained the importance of safety gear and why it's crucial to stay outside the barricaded areas. The highlight? Addressing the kids' curiosity about the levels of noise our work generates. Shaun reassured them that there's nothing to be scared or worried about. It's all part of making their school a better place!
